I sleep with the TV on.. Do you??!

Question: I can't sleep w/ out it on. I am 26 and have been sleeping w/ the TV on since I was 14. If it's too quiet, I cant sleep. My fiance cant sleep w/ out it since he met me.. so we both feel comfortable w/ it on. Such a waist of energy though.. what can we do?

I too sleep with either the TV or a radio on. I also have tinnitus but I haven't realized that the tv or radio can drown it out.
Anyway, what you might do is to try turning the tv off and a radio on at night. That might save a little energy and (may) be a little less expensive.

i'm 31 and have a nite lite everybodys different i dont thinks its that big of deal on electricity

I do it too, but if your TV has a sleep button, you can set it to turn off by itself after 30 or 60 minutes.

Learn to discipline yourself and sleep WITHOUT it on. C'mon..you're adults..nobody requires a tv to fall asleep.

I go to sleep with the tv on and a fan on. I turn the sleep control on the tv so it turns off after I'm asleep. I've been doing this since I was 19 and I am 30. i do it to block the quietness because if it's too quiet I get ringing and it bothers the crap out of me

Turn it off, and put a radio on a talkback station, to simulate TV.

Hm..I used to be like this too. I would say, trying turning down the volume a few notches everynight to slowly ease yourself off of the noise. Eventually, the tv will be turned all the way down so there is no volume and then you can turn it off. Hopefully this will help you, I agree about the waist of energy. Good luck to you both!

I did when I had surgery. I did it so that I would know I was still alive. Sounds dumb A. Helped though. I put mine on sleep timer now.

Well just know that you're certainly not alone! A whole lot of us sleep with a t.v. on mute.

If you're worried about energy wasted, maybe try a night light. If that doesn't work for you, just leave the darn t.v. on. It's like a teddy bear for many of us.

Just plug in and use a humidifier. White noise and helps decrease his snoring. That will be $20 please.

No big whoop. When I am alone (i.e., without my Love), I have it on quite a lot overnight. TV's use relatively little energy and sleep is important. What might help is if you get a TV with a sleep timer (yours might have it - check the remote) - you can set it to shut off at a later hour, when you're already "out." That's been helpful to me. I can get to sleep and stay asleep without it most nights. If I wake up, I can reset the timer.

Buy an ipod or a cassette player and listen to soft music. I sometimes leave my tv on all night, I sometimes listen to music. You do what you feel to get a good night rest that is more important. Peace of mind.

Nope, cannot do that, need quiet.

Basically, it is a habit that is based in some sort of comfort. You needed that for some reason when you were 14, but now that you are an adult, you don't. So, just start turning down the volume until it is off, then turn off the set.

i would definitely use a timer those work great! music helps too if you want to try something different i used to not be able to go to sleep with out it but i dunno u just have to tell yourself you can but its not wierd that you do.

Many people need some monotonous background noise to help them sleep, it keeps them from focusing on isolated noises or from the irritation of ringing in the ears. I would think the flickering of a television would make it hard to sleep, there are other options. I use a fan and my mother uses a sleep machine that makes sounds similar to an ocean.

a t.v with a timer would be perfect for you and your fiance...

I've been doing it for years and I always fall asleep faster if it is something I want to watch....
