I think I have a mental disorder, who can I talk to????!

Question: I always thought that I had OCD. It isn't because I like to clean or anything, it is just the compulsive habits and stupid obsessions that made me think it. I recently read an article on it and I have lots of the symptoms. Some things I didn't even associate with OCD.

I was thinking about talking to my guidance counselor at school about it before I go to a professional. Do you think that is a good idea or a bad idea?

No, I think that is a brilliant idea. Your guidance counselor will be able to make a very good reccommendation about a professional as well, and they will be able to help you cope with it at school if needed.

erm... a doctor??

make sure you wash your hands before you do... hahah.. kidding...

yeh, some outside help is always a good thing.

therepyst phsycologist doctor make sure that their office name has a doctor in it.

psychiatrist

just go to the doctor....

Doctor

I would go see a psychiatrist's NOW, because you may a disorder that requires you to take Meds.... so don't wait go talk to someone my friend!!!

Thats A good idea, they could probably point you in the right direction.

Try the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). Use google and youtube to find information about this.

evryone has it to some degree it useually is ok if left untreated unless the habit is dangerous

ask your parents first...then prolly go see a pro

You can talk to me.... You need to talk to some one. It is definately a good idea to talk.

See a Doc.

i think its a good idea

go to d doctor??

Talk to a doctor, but if you "know" you have one, chances are its not that bad. Its the ones you don't know that are serious.

I think it's a good idea..at this point, what do you have to lose?

Talk to your guidance counselor first if you wish, but also see a doctor please....doctor will need to diagnose and possible refer you to someone who can help you with issues.

I would go and make an appointment with your primary care physician before you talk to the counselor! Then tell the doctor everything you think you have. He can do some tests or refer you to a specialist. If you really think you have OCS then you can still tell your counselor...but first go and get checked out...

Talk to your parents first.

Go to your GP, who will refer you to a mental health specialist.

A Doctor or a Counselor would be better at it then a Guidance Counselor.

you should really just go talk to a pro. the school people dont really know what they are talking about. before i was diagnosed with depression, my boyfriend at the time went to his schools gidance counsler, who called mine (we went to different schools). she called me in the office and talked to me for less than 5 minutes, then as soon as i left she called my mom and told her i was suicidal (which i wasnt, and said NOTHING anywhere NEAR that). my mom all buy dragged me to the dr, she almost called the hospital.

you should go to your usual dr, they can refer you to a specialist if they think you need it.

It depends on what outcome you want from a discussion with a guidance counselor. They are there to provide academic advice, not medical advice. I suggest you skip the guidance counselor because you may get "labeled" by the school administration.

yeah talk to your guidance counselor chances are he has seen or talked to kids with the same condition and he/she can give you advice on where to go from there and if you need any special accommodation for tests like extra time etc. but before anything talk to your parents they need to know this so they can find you a doctor so you can get evaluated and see if there is actually any problem.

call dr phil

That's a great idea! First of all it's free. Second, it's someone who's non-judgemental, and trustworthy. Third, they have all the resources for the next steps you might need to take, like talking to your parents, getting evaluated and ongoing care. If it turns out that you do have OCD, they can also tell you about options you might have at school, like having extra time during exams, since you might be fighting urges instead of being able to concentrate.

Goodluck and good for you in being proactive. I hope you get the help you're looking for!

You have to be careful not to get boxed into a position and
even certified on your record. I would pay for advice under another name and then decide. You don't want to end up in a straight jacket. OCD is a minor part of everyone I would say,
and has to be watched by most of us as it kind of builds up if you let it.

Lots of people have OCD symptoms and lots of them without being OCD. Most people just call it being anal.

I'm positively anal about how my laundry is folded. So much so that it gets on my nerves at work because everyone won't fold the towels like I do! (Sheets too!)

Although it nearly drives me nuts, I've had to let go of some of the things I used to be really anal about. Like cleaning my floor on my hands and knees. I'm not physically able to do that anymore.

Talk to your guidance counselor. But see a professional, they are best educated to handle such things.

a psychological doctor..
