Isn't it a pain to have to take 7 pills every night?!

Question: I wish I wasn't cursed to have to shove pills down my throat every night for the rest of my life just to keep my sanity & correct my brain chemicals. & the meds don't even help. I'm afraid to tell my doctor because she is considering putting me on LITHIUM, which I heard was 1 of the most dangerous meds out there.

I gag every night, & it feels very uncomfortable to swallow those pills, but I still take them EVERY night, & never miss a dose.

Not by any means am I trying to minimize your situation, or how you feel. I'm a nurse and there are patients I have given 10-20 pills in one shot. They need pills for their mental health, pills for cardiac health, for issues stomach, for issues with breathing, pain control issues, cancer meds, meds needed after having a transplant. The list can go on. I feel for you and I'm sorry that this has happened to you. But you gotta keep on. As bad as it may seem, there are people out there in worse plights. Even if you don't feel the meds are working for you keep taking them and let your doctors know how you feel. There are plenty of people on Lithium-who are carrying on very mentally healthy lives- they have working marriages, children, hold good jobs, etc. Have you tried taking them with applesause, or jelly. Then maybe saltines or any crackers, to help them get down. Unfortunately we don't know what were gonna get thrown in life, it doesn't seem fair but you can't throw in the towel, gotta keep pushing. Good luck to you. Hope I wasn't preaching.

Instead of looking on your medication as "pain" look on it as a privilege. Without it, you would be in misery. Many people suffer profoundly (as you probably have), but are not blessed with the resources it takes to acquire treatment and appropriate medication. As it is, you only need devote a few short moments of your day to it. An attitude of gratitude really does make all the difference.

I only have to take two pills a day, but I feel for you. It sounds like you have something really horrible to live with, and I think you are brave and strong for taking your medicine rather than just saying, "F*** it!"

Try taking them with protein & do not try to swallow more than 2 or so at once.

I know how you feel, but just be thankful that you have the pills. I mean, think of how horrible you'd be if you didn't have the pills. Please don't consider stopping taking them, although I know you don't because you say you never miss a dose so thank you! If you continue to have concerns, especially about the lithium drug you should talk to your Doctor about it. It cannot hurt to tell him your concerns. I wish you the best of luck and hope you continue to get better.

Mental health treatment I would say is a very clumsy one indeed. The way to over come this illnesss is through self realization and of meditation along with some spiritual growth .I have some good friend who are suffering from a kind of mental illnes and they have found some peace of mind through the art of self realization and along with some meditation and with some holistic medicine

Better living through chemistry!

Yes it would be hard to have to take that many pills; especially if they aren't helping much. I don't know that much about Lithium. Is your doctor good about talking to you. Could you tell her your concerns about Lithium and maybe she can tell you the good side of it and promise to take you off the medication safely if it does not work out well for you.

i used to do that LOL
