What do you think....?!

Question: about Anti-Depressants ?

Answers: about Anti-Depressants ?

Good and bad. If someone really needs them to help them through a bad patch, then they're fine. One of my best friends lost her husband a couple of years ago. She took them for a while to help her cope, but she doesn't take them anymore. However, there is always the danger of addiction, but if one is under the care of a decent doctor, I don't think that can happen.

not good,

what if you get addicted?

Good if you really need them. Talk to a professional.

Anti-depressants can be very beneficial, they are not addicting if taken properly. Talk to your doctor, there are different options available. Depression can be a very debilitating condition.

Antidepressants can work well for those who really need them. Sure they can addicting, but so can other meds. But if you are majorly depressed, and nothing else is working.
Then talk with your doctor, do some research and be prepared with questions for him or her. Then make your own mind up.

If you are depressed and cannot talk yourself out of it they are a Godsend.

They're great. No modern anti-depressants are addictive to addiction is NOT a problem. I'm on a mood stabaliser but I used to be on an antidepressant and it helped minimally ... But all my friends who are depressed so it worked wonders for them.

I take Prozac. And it helps me feel better.

But you need to figure out WHY you are depressed to really sort it out.

Any antidepressant is just like ice. It keeps the pain still and quiet until you;re ready to deal with it.

eh. they help - but you forget to take them for a few days, or can't afford them...you go into withdrawal which is horrible. Severe depression and anxiety, so you become pretty reliable on them, as long as you take them like you are meant to - they work well.

I've seen so many results with friends & loved ones that they scare me. Only 1 person did they actually seem to help. Many look like zombies, the problems get worse or they hopped back & forth on drugs. Too many dr's try to throw drugs at problems instead of finding the cause & curing it. I had 1 try to get me to take them because I was slower than normal & hurting all over so he thought it was depression. It wasn't depression, I refused the drug & it turned out to be a severe reaction to another medication I was on. I switched dr's. Years later the new dr tried to give me one because I was having trouble sleeping for so long after an accident with painful injuries. He said it was depression. I refused outright because of the previous experience. A friend who had the same problem with accident pain recommended a padded matress heating pad that goes on like the bottom sheet but under it. I never slept better, didn't wake up with pain & started improving. One of my closest friends was prescribed them & ended up an alcoholic & years of therapy. I think they are over prescribed & too generic. Another friend has her kid bouncing on different kinds because she can't see why they aren't helping & the side effects are worse than the origional problem.
I think they need more control & greater standards need to be met to qualify to take them. I believe the industry needs to lower it's prices so that the people who need them can have access (the friends who are financially troubled seem to need them more) and the insurance companies have too low a cap on them. I think excercise should be prescribed as a pre-requisite because many people report they had better & quicker relief when they exercise than with the pills to begin with.
The greater focus should be on solving the problems rather than drugging the symptoms in my opinion.
Hope this helps.

If it were not for anti- depressants I would not be here today! I am bipolar and need them just to function as a normal adult.

Anti-depressant drugs are not good - they can have nasty side effects and can make your depression worse.

Especially stay away from Prozac - a significant number of suicides have been taking it.

If you must take something, try herbal remedies such as St. John's Wort - available at health food stores and some drugstores in the vitamins & supplements section.

i think they're good they helped me even though I'd prefer not to put any drugs in my body...i can get through day easily and not feel worn out and sad..life is to short even if they had negative effects I'd still take it b/c the benefits outweigh the negatives..

i,m aganist useing them for any reason .
