Hello. I know how you feel. I was on Valium for 10 years and also xanax for 4 years. I know how dangerous it is if you just stop the medication like me. It can kill you. Try and go to somewhere and get a doctor and explain things to him. Go to the hospital as they cannot knock you back and they do not like anyone going of cold turkey. If you where in Australia i would try and help you as everything is free here and doctors and hospitals and they help and give you tablets. Take care and keep your chin up as i know panic attacks are really bad and i am a social worker and i have them all the time.

I am not a doctor;however, I do know that when you abruptly stop some medications, it can be very dangerous. Valium is highly addictive and should be stopped gradually. Have you tried any natural treatments available at a health food store? Exercise will help release endorphins which naturally elevate your mood. I think you should contact your former doctor and see if he can do anything for you. I wish you well

Hi,

I'm sorry you're struggling so much. I'm a 20-year veteran therapist. The other posts are correct in that some of what you're likely experiencing are the withdrawal symptoms from abruptly stopping medication.

Additionally, you should either go to www.211.org or call "211" on your telephone number. I believe that number has now been reserved for human service calls only. They exist for the sole purpose of getting people connected to services.

I have two concerns:

I didn't hear any mention of therapy in your question post. I treat depression and anxiety all the time in my office with great success. Did you know that when you treat depression and anxiety with medication only, that there is an over 70% chance of relapse? It's true.

When appropriate medication is mixed with the right therapy the relapse rates once you stop using the meds is under 10%. That's amazing. Take a look for a therapist who's highly skilled in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).

The other concern is that your question had a tone of surrender to it. I see this sometime with folks who've suffered for a long time from depression/anxiety. It's sad to see that you've give into the power of depression and anxiety. I'm a former chronic depresssion sufferrer, but no longer. Depression can take on a life of it's own and then take over yours. It would seem that it has done just that in your case. In my life I came to call this:

"Living in a fully furnished rut."

You have to decide that depression is NOT who you are and begin to fight the GOOD fight to reclaim you life. You're worth it!

All the best,

One of the biggest wake up calls I had with my psychiatrist was her comment "when depression sets in, it's ok to let yourself be depressed but just know that it doesn't have to be forever". So now when I feel depressed I tell myself go ahead sleep be sad be unsociable for a few days. It's just a cycle. Medication does help and the county has programs for people to get insurance to help themselves.
