Why the hell do idiot teenage girls pretend to have problems?!

Question: Today I met a girl who claimed she "caught" OCD off a friend who also has it. She kept talking about how hard her life is because she has to wash her hands once when she gets home.

As a former OCD sufferer myself I found that pretty insulting, and I'm just wondering why she would bother lying about something like that. I've noticed a lot of girls at my college do the same. ADD, OCD, SAD... They all seem to have something wrong with them. =/

Narcissism...they most likely have low self esteem...next time these girls claim to have a disorder, call them on it, ask them who diagnosed them, what kind of treatment they are receiving...most people with REAL problems keep quiet about them.

well i am a teen age girl and i have depression, yes i really do been to doctors. and like half of them do that to get attention... apperantly they're trying to flirt and just be talking and scream SQUIRREL!!!! just to make them look cute. and also the whole emo thing, girls pretend there depressed so they can be that sexy emo chick *wtf?!! i know!* but yes i understand why that would make you mad. it bothers the hell out of me too.

It's just an excuse to cover up their stupidity

Yes i know its annoying, best thing to do is change the subject quickly then they cant get any attention from it.

Everyone has a problem, atlest they are clean. I know you cannot catch a mental illness, but some people who have it all made and there has never been a problem, want the attention. Maybe she has Munchassen Syndrome, ya know, when you believe that you have every problem that you find out about.

not all teenage girls pretend to have probelms
the one who do pretend to have problems are shallow and just want attention

teenaged girls are the stupidest creatures on the planet. that is why god had to make them cute. its their self defense mechanism. it is what keeps you from killing them every time they open their stupid mouths to say absolutely nothing usefull. thankfully, they usually grow out of it when they hit 23 or so

Yeah that's preety stupid, you can't catch that. But you know how some people are. No brain no headache

There's only one word to explain it "drama". Teenage girls love DRAMA. They need constant attention and feel the need to talk about stupid things to get the attention.
And for the OCD chick, "what the h*ll?" does she not know that OCD is not contagious. You can't get it from someone else. "She washes her hands once when she gets home", so do I and I don't have OCD. I just wash my hands because it's necessary to keep them clean. HOW STUPID!!!

Don't confuse ignorance with stupidity. These girls may not know much, but they are young and still learning - it's a bit unfair to expect them to be as experienced and logical as adults.

And what gives you the right to judge other people's suffering? Okay, so a mild case of OCD isn't as bad as leukemia or alzheimer's or whatever. No one is claiming her suffering is worse than anyone else's - but it still messes with her life, and we should have compassion for those who suffer, no matter the intensity or cause.

So pity the ignorance of those who have yet to learn; and sympathize with the struggles of others, instead of dismissing everyone as "idiots."

alot of girls do that just to make themselfs seem more interesting, or to get attention..
i know what your talking about when you say it insults you, i am adhd and i have severe (sp) depression and i hate it when people say they have one of those just to get attention

it's annoying. Usually if they feel like they have to tell other people, then they're pretending just for attention, because they just want some drama in their life. I don't know why so many teenage girl wants attention... but I'm sure that anyone will admit that it does feel good to have people feeling bad for you. I think it's just a girl thing, because most girls I know love attention! it just makes you feel special when you get lots of attention, so it usually boosts your self esteem. It is offensive and rude, because usually people who have problems like that try to hide them.

its all attenion seeking, u get some people with p.d ( personailty disorder) who do the same thing just they have a problem and teenage girls dont.

As some of the others have said, they are possibly trying to get attention and want to "fit in" with their friends. As well, most people lack knowledge about disorders, such as OCD, because they haven't been taught about the criteria one needs to follow to be diagnosed. Basically, people tend to associate themselves with disorders just because they happen to have a symptom/ or symptoms similar to a disorder, even though, that doesn't mean they have it.

Anyhow, that's my answer, considering I'm a teenager myself. I hope I helped.

im a 16 year old girl. i have suffered from ocd. and am on tablets for something else. but i also hate it wen people pretend they have something wrong with them. i am quite quiet about my ocd and quite ill sometimes becuase of my tablets, but i hate it when i go to school and my friend says oh im so ill i feel so sick - then they are laughing minutes later. when i tell that same person that i feel really tired she will automactically say oh i bet i feel more tired than u. also this girl is a vegetarian and if she misses a "multi vitamin" tablet in the morning she feels ill.
she also claims to have ocd which i told her that it is quite rude to say that as she has no symptoms whatsoever of it and she knows i suffer from it.
yes lots of teenage girls say they have problems. but i dont trust the ones who openly say it to everyone in their school. they want attention

For attention, teenage girls need constant attention, like crack addicts need their fix.

Amen to that Sam. A lot of teen girls seem to have "something" wrong with them.. OMG!! I think too many people claim to have problems in order to explain something they do that is suddenly no longer "cool".. umm just accept what you did..

It's an attention thing. Everyone has something that they do that they like the attention. This is not the kind of attention that I would want. Teenagers love when people worry about them....like they think that no one cares about them (Sub-consciously)...They will get over it over time, but until then we have to deal with it...

A big one from both teenage girls and teenage boys is "i'm going to kill myself". I hate that. This is a big attention grabber. If you were truly going to kill yourself...1. You wouldn't tell anyone and 2. It wouldn't be an attempt...you would actually do it. But this is off topic in a way ;)

I get that a lot from people in my school. girls insisting that they "caught a disorder" or some sort, but my school has mopre of a problem, that girls seem to like to go back and forth on who's life sucks more.
you'll here stuff like arguments over who does drugs, who's dad talk to them less, who gets yelled at more, who has more of a headache. It's like if there is something wrong with them someone will pay attention to them.
and it's exactly that. it makes them feel special bacause other dumb people will feel sorry for them.
question them completely and watch them fumble with their words.
I'm suffering from a mild case of OCD. I don't wash my hands often but I tend to erase my erasers because they are dirty, things like that.
