Puzzles, reading, magazines, local churches or community centers have various types of activities and take volunteers to do simple things an hour or two a day, bingo, ..
Keep looking, something may appeal to her. LOL!

Try water aerobics at your local YWCA or even visit with her more often so she has something to look forward to.

What does she like to do?

What gets her going? Does she like to read? Have her join a book club!

Also, volunteering. She can do numerous things. Have her contact the Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club. Even a nursing home. She can even volunteer at the hospital.

Does she go to church? She can help out there.

She can also join a support group for depression.

My parents are in their 80's and some of the things that they do are participate in a senior citizen center if one is available. You should contact the agency in your area, that deals with senors and find out what's available to them. Call a the non profit organizations and see if they need volunteers. Even though your grandmother may have heath issues if she can get out a couple of times a week it will keep her from being bored. Talk to her doctor to see if she can be given medication to help control the pain, so that she can get around better. Make sure that her doctor and she are on the same page and that the doctor feels that she can do the volunteer work. It will give her something to do and someone to think about besides her self.

My step-mother became a docent at a zoo. She has learned about the animals and also the plants. They recently also became certified as a botanical garden. She gives talks and guides people around teaching them about these things. She loves it. She also picked up doing art work. She had never done it before retirement and now takes water color classes specifically in botanical art. She is now a master artist in this area. She runs daily (really amazing), goes to the gym, goes with friends to talks, concerts, museums and many other events. She is so fun to visit. I don't worry about what we will do, because everything we do is so interesting. I always enjoy it.
