Have you ever been to a mental hospital?!

Question: No, but sometimes, I think I need to.

Which sounds ridiculous, because, most people that are there think they shouldn't.

But I think I need to, to prevent hurting myself, to the point where it hurts other people.

No.

no

No, but I have been in a behavorial health unit/psychiatric ward. There is a difference, don't get them mixed up.

no. why do you ask?

yes more then ounce .but because i was where i need to be at that time 1 aim alive 2i have not had suicide thoughts 4 a vary long time . i am happy in my life now

Yep.

Yes I worked in one many years ago when it was like One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. But they were good days and we had a lot or happy but unfortunately institutionalised patients. Then came care in the community and that's a whole other story!!!!

Yes, several times for bi-polar episodes. Both manic and depression.

Yes.
I visited a friend in 1977, and I was in one for 3 days for observation.

Yes, back in the darkages when I was still in high school. It helped in that I was removed from the situation that was causing the problem, but in the long run I got thru it w/o professional help. It was kind of frightening-- one patient was getting electric shock treatments, & he'd be fine at breakfast, but after the treatment, he'd say " I know you, but I can't recall from where or what your name is". By supper, he'd be relatively ok, then do it again the next day. They don't use ect much anymore, but it did help him. Sometimes as awful as it can be, it's the only way to protect someone from themself. I hope you're just curious....

I have been in several times for depression and one suicide attempt. It was a unpleasant expierence becduase no one came to see me. The places were very nice and they treated me well. Seeing so many others worse off then I was made me work harder each time not to go back. I havent been back in 3 years. They teach you a lot and will help you find the right resources to get your life ack on track.

Yes, in the early 1980's for anorexia and depression. SSRI's weren't used then, so shock treatments, tricyclic antidepressants, and MAO inhibitors were the treatments of choice.

Interestingly, many of the people I met there weren't "mentally ill." Most of them had physical problems (Bell's Palsy, epilepsy, uncontrolled diabetes, alcoholism, and one memorable guy that got hit in the head with a hammer during a bar fight) that resulted in depression.

One woman was convinced that the people on her television were telling her to kill her husband and children, but that was about as "weird" as it got.

Yeah, but I was in a behavioral health center. I spent five days in the first one and 4 days in the second one. Um, it was for mood swings hallucinations, stress, etc. One unit later I had a diagnosis schizophrenia and medicine that works...seroquel that works

I HAVE BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL,AND SADLY ENOUGH I HAD NO VISITORS MY FAMILY 'S IN THE DARK ON MY ILLNESS THANK GOD ITS BEEN MANY YEARS. BUT I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHO BEAT YOU UP THE OTHER PATIENTS OR STAFF BECAUSE I'D BELEIVE IT FROM EITHER. TAKE CARE
