O.C.D Question!!!?!

Question: Well i think i have OCD
but whenever i bring it up around my mom, she ignores it
the first time i realized what i had was when this people on True Life ( i think that is what it is called) had it.
So much girls at my school say they have it, but they just like things to be neat and organized.
I do that too, but i always have to have either 3,5, or 7 anythings.
Just today this girl gave me 2 candies and i told her i needed another, she thought it was because i just wanted another, but i NEEDED another.
I also need everything to be symmetrical
Like if I touch one thing with my left hand, i have to touch it with my right
And there is a whole bunch more
Like I have to wash my hands like 3 times
and fluff my pillow
and when im typing and i mess up a word, i have to delete the whole word, not just part

People say that you take medication to deal with OCD, but i was wondering if this is true what kind.
And also is their another way.
Like a psychologist or something

Thanks

Hi, I too have OCD.
I experienced a traumatic experience in my teens that brought my problems to the surface.
I didn't tell anyone about the strange unusual rituals that were beginning to take over my life.
It sounds to me like you are suffering from OCD just by what you are describing.
The first step is to recognise it and then take the steps to manage it.
See your GP to make sure you are well and get a referral to a psychologist.
You can talk through things and even learn Cognitive Behaviour Therapy which helps you to control and manage your thoughts.
Then see a psychiatrist for medication if you and your psychologist agree this is needed.
I have been on medication and it does help.
I found that it slowed down my thoughts and in the process slowed me down a little.
It kind of makes you recognise what is happening with your body and thoughts.
However after a period of time, treatment and cognitive behaviour therapy I suffered an event that brought me to my worst point.
My only options were to give up or get better.
I chose to take what I had learned and get better.
My OCD is very similar to what you are describing.
I have thoughts that pop into my head and I have to do some silly thing (usually to do with security, locking relocking doors etc) or the thought is that something bad will happen to someone.
I still suffer from this and always will and I don't try to ignore it because it is like a security blankit, if I do these silly things than I know everything will be okay.
Be careful though because OCD likes the company of other disorders.
I also have morbid depression and anxiety disorder.

This has all been my experience.
I really think you are at the acceptance stage where you can do something about it.
Be brave and don't be scared of it.
Turn this negative into a positive.
Try talking seriously to your mum about your concerns and get started on the steps to get better.

You are very brave for recognising this.
Please take care and I truly hope this helps

my doctor told me i had it, but i have other paranoia symtoms so i dont know what i have. you probably have it. do you feel the need to scream when things dont get lined up the "right" way. my mom ignored me to untill i started checking all the doors and windows to make sure they were locked every night and telling my family i love them 50 times a day.

you need theropy ... not drugs
just exercises ect to make your brain think around shuff.. your not crazy and I thinks its kinda cool.. at least your hands are always clean

It def sounds like ocd.
I take paxil for it. it really helps a lot.
Print your post and let your mom read it. Then tell her you would really like to get some help for it. It could get worse without treatment.

Yes, there are many different kinds of medications to ameliorate OCD. If I were you, I would see a doctor. You can indeed see a psychologist to treat your OCD. You can use therapy. It is best to use both therapy and meds. Here are a few psychotropics that psychiatrists may prescribe for people with OCD:

1. Luvox
2. Prozac
3. Paxil
4. Ativan
5. Trazodone

and many others.

I would encourage you to see a doctor. You do indeed have OCD. But that is okay. One in every fifty people have it. There are things you can do to help yourself. Good luck to you!

PS- Check out the "Linden method." I have heard that his methods work EXCELLENTLY in combating OCD.

I have O.C.D. I've had it since I was a little girl. I had to repeat saying things, doing things, and I didn't like anything occuring in threes or the number thirteen! You know, I never told my family I had to do these things -- they knew I was a repeater (like I'd have to say good night, sweet dreams, a certain amount of times and they'd laugh!) It was annoying at its worst, but it became bad when my mother passed away and I obsessed on getting cancer constantly. Long story short, I could think of NOTHING else but that, and I eventually had a nervous breakdown. As a result of that breakdown, I was put on a small dose of Celexa daily, and I have to say it saved my life. It stops the dwelling on things and if I get three servings of something, I don't think the world is going to fall apart.
Now, I have to tell you that the down side of taking any medication like this is a dependency on it. I have been taking it now for 12 years. I hate having to take a pill a day -- even a vitamin! I have tried to stop taking it, and a week or so after I try to stop, I get all jittery and have to get back on it. But I will tell you the benefit of this far outweighs the fact that I don't like needing a medication daily.
And don't feel strange, I know many people that have O.C.D. and NEED medication, and aren't insightful enough to see a doctor. God bless.

I've had OCD since I was 7. I remember doing the really weird stuff like touching something with my left hand and then having the touch it with my right. I also need things in sets of 3, 5, or 7!! Like if I'm doodling in my notes at school, I draw 5 sets of everything. I also wash my hands a lot cuz I'm scared of germs, etc.

And yeah, OCD is sooo much more than just wanting to be organized. People joke about it, but its more a feeling that you HAVE to have it organized or something bad will happen or you can't move on with your life.

So yeah. I'd say you have OCD, but it's not a big deal at all! Millions of people have it. Sure its an inconvenience, but there are a lot of things you can do to make it go away. Luvox (fluvoxamine) is an OCD medicine you take everyday. It helps your brain chemicals get back in order so you can see that in reality, it doesn't matter if you touch something with both hands or have three candies.

OCD is just a chemical imbalance that makes the rational side of your brain unable to communicate with the irrational compulsive part. Luvox, or Zoloft and other medications can help. So can talking to a therapist who can teach you behavioral changes. It's also nice just to have someone to talk too who understands! Good luck! :D

First of all, don
