Do I Have a mental illness ?!

Question: I'm 25 years old and have never been diagnosed with anything. I had a seizure once a year for three years but have not had one in two years. Doctors told me that everything seemed fine as determined by CATscan and MRI. I've been drinking on a regular basis for about 5 years now. I've tried to cut down and its almost impossible to go without at least one drink. For about three weeks now, I had a sudden fever with some nausea. Next day I had chest pains at night. Next day and ever since i've been sleeping long hours and don't really feel like doing anything like work or school. Getting out of the house seems almost impossible. And sometimes I get very scared that something is wrong with me and it interferes with my daily living and I don't feel like myself most of the time.

Sounds like you have several issues you need to deal with.
Maybe get looked at by a doctor for alcoholism, for a start.
Alcohol is a depressant and will cause several of the problems you have mentioned.

Maybe begin with this website - it is a test to see if your an alcoholic:

If you feel you are one, then maybe try AA or another support group around you, but do this inconjunction with your GP, he/she will really be instrumental in assisting with the next step.

The fever, chest pains, nausea and sleeping can pretty much be attributed to bouts of drinking and drying out.

Try this site below, it also might be a good one for reference.

HOWEVER, you really do need to go to your local GP to get a proper diagonsis, we are talking to you after reading what you say, your GP will do whatever tests you need and provide you with all the support you require to become well again.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

It sounds like something might be up... you might see a therapist and/or a physician.

Don't worry. You're simply an alcoholic. Focus on your alcohol problem and you'll get better.

You sound like you have issues with anxiety and depression. You need to see a psychiatrist to get a professional opinion. They ARE medical doctors, despite what some people say.

No.

Most of it sounds like physical problems, nothing really mental...
Though some of your claims make it sound a bit like depression.

Depression sucks. Catch it early if you can.

You may or may not suffer from mental illness, but you do suffer from addiction, right? Addiction can play havoc on your mental state. Get some help and my guess is the depression and anxiety may just clear up. Go talk to your doctor.

You are depressed. Get help asap

that sounds like depression to me i should know i have the same problem and am getting the help i need. you may want to look into antidepressants.

Mental Illness? Not likely. A drinking problem - yes. If you want to stop you can contact your local alcoholics anonymous and enter a 12 step program with the support of others in similar situations.

my mother also has seizers the doctors say its because she is always stressed and she takes seizsure meds u might get them as well from your doctor also u could try talking to someone who knows you best? your mother your father they raised you they should know if you have a mental problems or not being they can remember things in your early childhood u can not

ur eaither an acoholic or have a minor case of clinical depression u should still keep getting it checked out most mental ilness need to be there for 8-10 years before being diagnost maby less so just get it checked every once in a while

Sounds like you have slight depression and anxiety, you should see a medical Dr. to see if your physical health is well, if it is then i recommend seeking psychological help.

You sound like you have symptoms of depression: forming addictions, loss of interest, homebody...see a therapist, and if you agree with me, tell you're doctor you suspect you have depression. Same with the therapist. Hang in there, man. ;)

Most probably you are having depression. My suggestion is to make your will power strong, try to overcome your weakness, do regular simple excises and have proper diet for atleast 15 days and then see the difference, you feel better.

I am not anybody to determine if u have a mental illness or anything but I think u should speak to somebody on how u feel mentally and emotionally. U might even be a bit depressed. Its best u speak to a psychologist.

I've felt that way before. Talking to somebody would really help
=\

I don't suppose this is news but you need to see a neurologist, toute de suite, Pal. Depression is serious stuff - not just clinical 'sadness'. Hie thee to a pro, pronto and Good Luck.

Dilantin treats Depression as well as seizures. You can tell the doc I said so.

It could be bi polar, and anxiety disorder or just simply depression. All of these things most people try to treat themselves by self medicating with alcohol, consciously or subconsciously. You should get checked out to find out which it is and get started on a treatment plan. It makes a world of difference. Good Luck Sweetie.
