Does anyone who has bipolar have a hard time keeping a relationship?!

Question: Are you able to keep a steady job? My husband has this and he's always confused about life and what's in store for him. He gets jobs very easy, but after a few days, he wants to quit. Also, we've been together for 9 years, and he seems confused on whether he wants to stay with me, or if he should move on, but when I ask him why, he doesn't really know and says it could be his bipolar. Does anyone else have a hard time with these, if you have bipolar?

Mandy, there are thousands of people who live with being bipolar but with meds live a normal life and keep a job so he sound like he needs help find someone to help him.I know you have been with him fo nine years but you might want to think about moving there alot of men out who will work and make you life much better.

I'm Bipolar and have some of the same issues relationship wise. But if you two have been together for 9 years and he still is having trouble with where he stands on the relationship then he needs to seriously work that out. 9 years should be enough time to have a solid outlook on a relationship in my opinion. As for the whole job thing, that really lies on a bunch of other factors.

EDIT: Him not wanting to take his meds means he could potentially be headed towards mania ( a manic state). Hopefully you know enough to know that's not good. I never want to take my meds but I know without them I could become...psychotic.

For me, confusion usually is an issue when I'm in some level of a mixed state. Are his meds working optimally? Same thing could be affecting his work history. I do hold a job. Sometimes it's tough, but I muscle thru it or take time off. Of course, BP is different in different people, so it's not a fair comparison. Stress is another confusion trigger. Gee, we can be difficult sometimes, but usually worth it. I usually do okay keeping relationships. If he's been with you nine years, it sounds like he doesn't do too bad there, either. I'd say talk to him about seeing his psychiatrist for a med check up. Therapy is another basic not to be over looked. Maybe couples counseling...?
