Are depression and bipolar disorders treatable? Can you still work with this med!

Question: Seems that Tweety disregards psychiatrists being medical doctors with real MD licenses, medications having biological effects, and increasing research showing physical changes in the organ the brain (i.e. both illnesses are medical conditions), but claims to be a nurse. Whatever.

Depression and bipolar are treatable. Situational depression is the most common form of depression, and can often be managed with therapy, and/or a one time course of antidepressants. This is more like a temporary condition.

Recurring depression is more like bipolar in that it is a lifetime physical illness and needs to be treated as such.

Finding the right medication can take time. For bipolar, the average is two years. Patience is required. Both illnesses require med adherence. Stop taking the meds and relapse occurs. Medication does not completely stop mood swings, however, they are lessened and the period of normalcy between is lengthened. Therapy is another important component in managing these illnesses. First, just having them can be tough to deal with. Second, we need to learn how to be zen master at dealing with stress.

Work, family, friends, all that is possible depending on the person, the severity of the illness, med compliance, and to a large extent other comorbid illnesses (also occuring disorders). Perhaps the most important thing to know is that bipolar is a progressive illness. The longer it is left untreated, the worse it gets.

If you want a regular life, you can have it. Like anyone with any chronic illness, you just will have a few extra things you need to deal with in order to make it happen.

ETA: I'm bipolar. The state knows I work, it take my taxes. It doesn't know I'm bipolar.

Yes and yes.

They're treatable with medication. They vary in severity, but you should absolutely see a doctor. If untreated, it could effect your work. Therefore, you could end up out of a job.

Otherwise, you can work. No reason why you shouldn't!

therapy and medication. sure you can work. you are only immobilized when the medication isn't right or you aren't taking it.

yes. there are medicines people can take and you'd be surprised by how many people are out there working with depression and bipolar disorder.

Yes they are tratable. It's very important to find the right medication/dosage so close communication with a physician is necessary.

It's important to keep working and try to lead a normal life. Feeling disabled only makes the situation worse.

yes depression and bipolar disorders are treatable.the sooner you start the better you are able to function and interact with others. i'm not positive but i believe the type of treatment you are prescribed is dependent upon the severity of the case.hope that helps. the best way to learn about treatment options and such is to contact a psychiatrist.

Yes, there are effective treatments for depression and bipolar disorder.

Whether somebody can work or not depends on the severity of the illness. Can they get along with other people? Can they handle the stress? Can they get any work done?

I have Major Depression and I'm working, I had to file a complaint against my boss once because she was picking on me a little too much. I got a statement from my doctor and she cut it out. I still have the same boss after four years and things are okay at work now. My brother has Bipolar Disorder and he's working.

I know other people who are on permanent disability for mental illness. In some cases, it's pretty obvious that the person can't work (by judging they way they get along with other people, etc.).

Yes, and usually.

yup yup yup! Take it from me. Just check out my avatar name!
Butterfly....................I went from a cocoon to a butterfly don't worry everything will be fine.

hi my name is Glenn and i have bipolar depression, and yes i can work with the right meds.It took about two yrs before they got it right. Now i have a part time job and have had it for 1yr now.I find with a part time job it leaves us days for when we don't want to do or deal with anything. I like working because i get to meet people 2 days a week and i find some days are great and others managable. So go a head find a part time job not full time and you'll find it will help with the depression.

Yes but everyone is differant.Meds.and doctors are differant also. Some people can work and others need SSI.

These are not medical illnesses. They fall into the area of mental health. They are very treatable but clinical depression is probably easier to deal with. Both require medication and therapeutic counseling. Medication compliance is generally more difficult to achieve with bipolar disorder.

Many people already work at jobs and have depression so it depends on the severity and coping skills that one has. Once depression has lessened, employment may actually be helpful in managing depression, depending on the causes and what the person is depressed about. Is it chronic or situational?

With bipolar disorder, there's no easy fix. Whether or not one can work or continue working, depends on the severity, medication compliance, support network, therapy techniques and effectiveness of all these factors. But it certainly is possible.

Tell ya what I know.
Depression yes it is treatable and you can still work with this disorder
Bi_polar disorder is treatable with medication BUT
once you have been diagnosed with it
the state puts you on record as men tel
