Is there really such a thing as a "chemical imbalance" that causes men!

Question: Or is that just an idea? One that is untestable or hasn't been proven?

Yeh, there's enough research now that shows loss of grey and white matter for schizophrenia and untreated bipolar disorder. I think there are some findings for major recurring depression as well. As to specifics on neurotransmitters roles, there's nothing conclusive. They know they do play a role, but it's not clear if it's the neurotransmitter or the systems effected (GABA, chloride channels, ion channels, etc). There is increasing research regarding the end result of neuron birth and death. So, long winded way to say yes, for some MIs, there definitely is a "chemical" cause and effect.

i have it and it makes you think about things that you don't want to and it can get out of hand, which is the worst thing you can encounter

Well I'm a Depression sufferer, and my illness is caused by the fact that my brain does not make enough Seratonin. So yes some forms of mental health problems can be caused by "chemical imbalances" in the brain...
I don't know if this has been proven or anything but thats what I was told during treatment by the psychiatrist.
Hope this helps....

Not sure if it's testable per-se, although I suspect they've done the research on rats etc. to check this. It's pretty much a given however as the drugs they use generally act on the chemical receptors, thus it logically must be a chemical level problem. Process of elimination more than anything.

Yep thats what causes most mental illness.

Most mental illnesses that are successfully being treated are being treated by administering "missing" compounds,or by administering chemicals that "correct" the rate or effectiveness of natural chemical processes in the brain.

What rock have you been hiding under since the 1950s? LOL!

depression can be caused and maintained by a chemical inbalence

there are unmistakable symptoms of mental illnesses, yes...

depression is such a common one... and people change drastically when depressed. depression can be caused by chemical imbalances OR can be situational...

bipolar disorder has its specific symptoms, as well.

just because a person has an illness, does not mean they will have every symptom, nor does it mean that everyone has severe symptoms. we are all different.

schizophrenia is a definite brain disease.. it actually tears at the brain, and does deteriorate the brain.

The brain works like a rain drop flowing down a windowpain it likes to go down the same path and resists going down a different path . although when the stream is more powerfull it will cut a new trail ,and then resists change from that trail Having to do with electrostatic motion and resistance and of course gravity. but the point is once it goes down that new trail it doesn't like to go down that old one and the new one has all kinds of connections , and of course You can'
t forget the old trail,, but your headed down a new one and it's new conections , so when testing to see if its a squair peg or a round hole you can't help yourself , it will have do be fingered with, in the mean time more water is coming ,, what to do what to do ,, allot of profesionals say medicate , Well that's why we pay em. ,,,,,imbalance ,, if thats their wordage is it a hallucination or did you just think you saw somethin.

It's proven.
