When Alzheimer strikes your parents, what can you do?!

Question: All you can do is be there for them and take care of them.
My grandmother had Alzheimer's Disease, for five years my grandfather took care of her. But he was elderly himself, so it was hard. He then put her in a nursing home..she died shortly after.

The are some FDA approved medications for this disease. None of them cure it, but they do slow it down so the person can be more like themself longer.
Here's a site with them..just click for a description:

Hope this helps..

Hello. Alzheimer can strike at any age but normally after 60. It is very hard to deal with as people can get anger burst outs and also not remember you and that really hurts so you have to be a really strong person to deal with this. I know i might not be saying what you want to hear. If you need any help with this just email me and i will help you in anyway i can. Stay strong. Take care.

There's not much you can do except to do your best to see that your parent is getting good care.

My mother had dementia; it was really sad and hard to deal with. My Dad and I finally decided she had to be in a nursing home. She only lived for a few months after that. My mother was very intelligent and it was terrible to see her lose that. She didn't even enjoy her retirement for very long before her mind started to go.

The only thing I can say is that I really believe we did the best we could for her for long as we could. I was adamant about not sending her to a nursing home; but her behavior was so unpredictable that my father and I just couldn't handle her anymore.
