Help? sick but nobody to help?!

Question: I am always pessimistic even though it seems like my life should be pretty good. not great, but decent. but I am always looking for reasons to be upset/sad/etc. I think I'm also making myself sick- my joints hurt, my neck hurts, I'm always tired, generally a debbie downer. I have mono (but I have no idea how I got it) so my parents think that's what's making me so lethargic, but that's not it, I know.

my sister has mental health issues, mostly ocd and depression which I think is rooted in her being "gifted". she's on prozac, but has refused to go to therapy so my mom has given up on that. she is crazy, and she's making me crazy too. my mom told me not to tell anyone about my sister's issues (that was two years ago) and I haven't. now every depression test I take online says I have severe depression, but I can't talk to my parents about it, I tried and they wouldn't listen. I tried talking to my friends, but they think I'm just being a negative nancy.
help please I'm lost.

Hi hon.

let's talk about the mono first -- it can make you soooo tired and listless.. i've had it two times. so take care of yourself, and get good rest.

as for the depression, if this is affecting your day to day life, why not talk with your school counselor? You might let them know how you're feeling and that you feel you can not talk with your parents about it. IF you want to, you can ask your counselor to help you talk with your parents....perhaps your counselor might be a good "buffer" to get you some good help...

hugs

what are you eating?
what exercise are you getting daily min. 15 minutes/day?
what relaxation techniques are you practicing twice daily 20 minutes each time?

AND what talk therapy are you receiving for an hour per week?

you address NONE of this in your post...

Sounds like you have a stressful life going. Well first of all, if your parents won't help you with depression (which stress can cause alot of people's health issues these days) then talk to a couselor at your school or next doctor's visit you have...go in alone and talk with your doctor about what's going on. Your doctor shouldn't have any problem with talking to you and your parents and getting the help you and them both need. Don't worry about being negative or feeling negative...it's an every day thing with many MANY people. One thing that helps me is I keep telling myself (if no one listens) is that you need to live your life as positive as you can. Don't let you or others around you bring you down mentally. And if no one wants to believe you...hell...get a journal. Write down what's bugging you. If anything, talk to your sister. I'm pretty sure that she'll be there for you. And do the same for her..there's probably alot that is going on for her as well that no one wants to help or listen to. Besides, what if something bad happened to your parents? Your sister is the only person close enough that's going to be there for you and vise versa! ;) GL to you both and your parents :) and I hope I helped a little :)

Speak to your school counsellor.
