Eating disorders and compulsive behavior patterns affecting the diet are sometimes caused by insecurity and low self esteem. That is pretty easy to understand--a person who wishes they were someone else--a movie star--or a model--they think that will change their life for the better--they are not at ease with who they are--they want a way to make it easier to be with people--they do not like who they are---they set unreasonable goals for themselves----what needs to be done, is find out why they dislike themselves. Some people are constantly badgered at home--told demeaning things--made to feel inferior and not in control---made to feel like a failure---everything is negative in their early development years. So they want stuff to control--they want to control the body on the outside so everyone can see the results of their efforts--NO MATTER HOW DANGEROUS THE EFFORTS MAY BE.... horrible diets--or no food--or hours of repetitive exercises. They tell themselves " I am in control--I can do this--just wait--they'll see"". They actually have "no" esteem--will not actually participate in sports or social events--they still suffer regardless of how much they control----they are self destructing---they actually feel like thay are not worth the food--or even living. lack of a proper diet---I mean extreme diets of all water or pills can be dangerous--the body has no nutrition--the nutrition nourishes the brain and the organs--the body shuts down and the brain malfunctions from this abuse. Thought patterns can turn suicidal--some people do "CUTTING" as a reminder of their horrible self esteem. Now they are in a tail spin of destruction. Irrational behavior and thoughts and mental issues all come from poor nutrition. Some labels of ingredients list chemicals and a number of different sugars and starches-----there are people who are actually allergic to these ingredients--acute adverse reactions to the ingredients and no one is spotting this malady--the person just gets worse and worse. Their thoughts are screwy and they go through the day in a haze---MSG is a big time POISON to some people---we all need to eat healthy--I weighed in at 265 and was a nasty assh---e---I drank and ate crap--could not sleep---ate McDonalds and junk all the time---soda--beer---white flour---potatoes---I mean I was a mess----I had an allergy to white flour--barley--cane sugar--fructose--so my whole life changed when the doctor said I could drop dead at any time. I instantly changed my attitude---I ate salads--small portions of regular meat and vegetables for dinner--no cake or candy or soda or beer---no white flour of any kind---I had wheat bread instead---NO MSG--NO chemicals in my food anymore. I dropped to my present weight of 175---I still work as a professional firefighter--I no longer get in fights and act like an assh---e---I never call out sick----I have added years to my life. I don't drink--and I am happy to be who I am.

Eating disorders involve serious disturbances in eating behavior, including unhealthy reduction of food intake, severe overeating and/or dangerous methods to prevent weight gain, such as self-induced vomiting. Severe eating disorders may result in serious health consequences including death.

Patients can be diagnosed with an eating disorder at any age, but they most often develop during adolescence and young adulthood. More women than men are diagnosed with eating disorders.

The most common types of eating disorders are anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder. Other, less common types of eating disorders include pica and rumination disorder.
