OCD?? DO I have it???!

Question: I think I might have OCD. I think things that I don't want to think about over and over again. I usually find temporary relief by talking to love ones, but then the thoughts come back. My mom thinks I just take my thoughts too seriously and she had the same thoughts at my age, but she dropped her thoughts. I also thought that my obsessive thoughts could have happened because of religon. About a month or so ago I thought of going back to church. I am not sure. I also think if I dont do certain things bad stuff will happen, and I constantly check the alarm clock at night. What should I do?? Do you think I have OCD?? BTW I am 15.

My opinion is that you could have OCD. I have it and these are things that are either similar, or exactly like, things I have experienced.

What YOU should do is up to you, but if you want advice, here it is...

When I feel obsessive thoughts trying to invade my mind I make them stop with conscious thought. In other words, I MAKE them go away with other thoughts. I have done this for so long and with such determination and effort that most of my obsessive thoughts have diminished.

I love to paint. This is my hobby, and I am not telling you to take it up yourself (you can if you want, though!). By using my OCD as a way to focus my attention completely on what I am doing I am actually able to keep invading thoughts away. This may or may not work for everyone. However, any time you replace your invading thoughts with focus you win!

Being 30 years older than you are means I work. My job requires math skills and the positive use of OCD. By shifting my OCD to a useful thing- rather than negative- for eight hours a day, I have found that it actually has helped relieve the negative thoughts and obsessing, even when I am not at work.

There's a balance between useful and negative OCD. I can't tell you how to find it, or where to look. I can tell you that shifting this problem to something beneficial is where you have to start. Think about things you like doing, or things you think you might like to try. Once you have made a decision, follow through and become part of that which you chose. Use the OCD to focus on the positive aspects of your chosen "hobby" or interest. This is not a total curse, as you probably feel it is. There are many areas of life that require people who are focused, and even obsessive. The idea is to look for those areas that you would most like to participate. If Church is something you have an interest in, go for it! I for one can only thank God for helping me with my own OCD and showing me that there are good things that can be done with it. Also, the involvement with any group of people who seek positive fulfillment is always helpful.

God bless and keep moving forward!

ocd? no...paranoia...just relax and take vitamins

Maybe a mild form of it.

The only way to know for sure is to be diagnosed by a psychiatrist.

You concentrated long enough to write this paragraph. I think you will be OK.
Sounds like you have just discovered that dark place we all have in our heads... the place we go when we repetitively think bad thoughts or degrade ourselves. My advise is to limit your time in that place and monitor your thoughts. In other words, Get out of your head and do something positive.

It depends on whether or not you act on the thoughts, such as thinking that you need to clean your room, and that's all you do all day is clean. If you are worried that you might have OCD, I would talk to a doctor and get an accurate diagnosis.

dont listen 2 some of these idiots
i have a mild form of OCD and it sounds like u have the same. talk 2 ur doctor about ur concerns and get properly diagnosed and dont stress i know it feels bad but its not the end of the world once on meds and given some coping devices things will get better
good luck

Ask your doctor. I have OCD and it's such a pain. If it's bothering you ask a doctor about it.
