How do I convince my whole family that I'm cured from scizophrenia?!

Question: As Schizophrenia occurs at a rate of 1 out of 100 people, across all levels of income, place in society and races.
It is in fact much more common than most people tend to think!

There are some common false ideas about this condition!

1, That it means "split personality"
2, That the ill person can choose to quit "acting like that" (displaying symptoms)
3, That this medical condition is caused by poor parenting
4, That all persons diagnosed as having schizophrenia are dangerous
None of these are true!!!

As one of the Symptoms of Schizophrenia are Delusions --these are false beliefs, firmly held by the ill person but which other people do not believe. Examples of delusions: someone ordinary convinced that he is a great singer or someone convinced that she is being tracked by others who intend to harm her.

It would not be very help to yourself in trying to convince your family of anything that they will not believe.
As pointed out before by others, Currently there is no cure for schizophrenia.

However the majority (90%) of individuals with this disorder can expect to recover a level of functioning that allows a satisfactory life in their community.
In 75% of cases, there will be occasional periods of illness with many symptoms of schizophrenia, followed by long periods during which there will be only a few symptoms of schizophrenia present.
About 50% of people who receive the diagnosis of schizophrenia will experience some disability and need special support and consideration regarding employment and lifestyle maintenance.

So your best bet is to convince them that you have your condition under control and to help them to understand schizophrenia.
This will make the whole process much easier.

Just show that you have the situation under control and that you are following your doctors medical treatment.

Check out the link below, it may well be worth printing it and giving a copy to family members.

Schizophrenia cannot be cured. You can take medication which has wonderfully successful results, then you wont need to prove anything at all.

Prove to the world that schizophrenia can be cured would be a start... That or tell them you lied and were just acting the whole time.... Or you could never mind that wont work.

Its not really curable, but you can convince them that you are not suffering the symtons anymore, my uncle is scizophrenic and he is fine now but has had relapse his last one was about 3 yrs ago.

I doubt that you can. Thats a serious mental illness. They will always have that felling or doubt in the back of their minds. I dont think that it can be cured, just supressed. There are medications used to help cntrol the symptoms, but not cure it.

it's incurable unless perhaps it's caused by food allergies.

you are NEVER cured from this condition. I'm glad you family doesn't believe you

Like all the others on the board, I agree with them. Schizophrenia is not a illness that can be cured ever, not that I know of. All you have to is to stay on your medication, go to your counselling sessions, and keep a feelings diary on how you are feeling day by day. This is to be done to take away from your head/mind area all the stuff that is up there and then put on paper, away from you. For you to convince your whole family that you don't have Schizophrenia, first they would to see you calm and not bothered about the little things, and that you can hold quite normal conversations with them for a start.

if you are schizophrenic you would most likely be on medications. if you are feeling good about yourself, and are on medications, it is usually the medications that are making you feel better about your life. if you go off them, all you symptoms would come back. i have worked with many schizophrenics, and all of them that went off their medications got sick again. there is no cure for schizophrenia.
