Try meditation and deep breathing exercises
I suffer OCD, & I can't deal with it. I take 300 mg/Luvox per night, & the unwanted thoughts are still there. I flunked out in school because of the thoughts. They're so stressful that it's depressing. The thoughts are my worst battle. I can't function. I have to listen to a few of my favorite songs 5 times a day, & it's weird that I have this ritual where I have to concentrate on the beats of the songs & look @ photos of my faorite celebrities. If I get a 95 A on a test, I feel like a dummy.
it isn't easy,..and I have no meds for it. I have not found any meds that work. and the V.A. has tried. there just isn't a magic pill for me.
all I can do is just simply wear myself down until I am forced to just sit and do nothing. I go off into tangents and start working, working, working, and soon I am out of work and have to shut down.
I drive myself nuts and some folks around me. I've been caught outside shoveling snow at 3 am because I was wired up.
the worst is my P.T.S.D.
i'm not sure what you mean by "symptoms" - the obsessions (the thinking part) or the compulsions (the action part), but as far as the compulsions - i try very mild exposure. for example, i choose something that bothers me at about a 2 (on a scale of 1 - 10, ten being the worst) and start there. so let's say i need to check something... i force myself to prolong it 30 seconds. once i can do that without climbing the walls, i prolong it to one minute, etc. as far as the runaway thoughts - i haven't managed to get a grip on those yet.
