If she was court ordered, there would have had to have been a court appearance. More than likely she has voluntarily checked herself in and when she moves from one place to the next, there is a mandatory staying period of 72 hours. This is so people who might actually need help do not check themselves in and get too desperate and leave...only to have problems. She will probably have her questions addressed when the people come back tomorrow. If she is scared for her life, she should get help there. They are not evil places.

if u go to the hospital, ur answers will be better answered there. She is 19, and not a minor, everything will be sent through her first, so you probably won't see much of it. Go to the hospital to see what is going on. Good luck

They are allowed to call when they are in the mental hospital. When did this happen?? email me please

It's nice to know you care, but there are some things you need to keep in mind:

1.) Your granddaughter is an adult, and as such is solely responsible for her well-being until such time as a court designates someone with her power of attorney or as her guardian.

2.) Unless **you** were the ones granted such power, you would not be entitled to know anything regarding your granddaughter's current condition or affairs.

3.) It is quite possible that, as she committed herself, she has opted to be moved to another facility which can better meet her needs. Remember that those who are self-committed are not obligated to undergo evaluation as to whether or not they pose a threat to themselves or others, and are capable of ending their treatment at any time - unless their continued behavior in treatment is such that the facility seeks to change her status...which, again, would not involve you.

4.) If there was a court-ordered commitment, then whoever was designated as her attorney and/or guardian would be furnished with the appropriate documentation.

Your best course of action at this time is to visit the hospital she was last residing in to ask for her new location, so you will be able to visit her - this is a piece of information which should be available to you. Otherwise, you will just have to wait until she is released - either because she has chosen to end her stay (assuming she still retains her power of attorney) or else the need for commital has passed.

Call an attorney and ask what can be done. If it was court ordered someone should show you papers. Call a attorney today!! Tell them what you think, something is not right with this hospital. Tell the attorney she said she was afraid for her LIFE. I was told they could not hold anyone more than 3 days without a court order. There are to many good places to get help other than a mental hospital. No one needs to be there unless there is no other way to save them or someone Else from harm. Good luck and my prayers are with you
