Am I Bipolar or just really unhappy/depressed?!

Question: Heres the deal: I have a really bad anger problem. For instance, right now I feel pretty good (confident) but I know if something bad happens (the littlest thing such as an argument or I bang my toe on something) I will get extremely pissed off start punching walls and then not want to do anything for the rest of the night. This happens quite often. My doctor has told me that I am severely depressed but I am starting to think that it is a little more than that. I always want to fight people, and if someone makes a little joke about me (kidding around) I will snap at them and threaten to kick their ***. I go to the gym quite often mainly to prepare for Navy boot camp. What do you guys think?

Your doctor is half right. You are depressed. But you are anxious, too. Anxiety and frustration can lead us to yelling and hitting faster than anything.

I have a problem with anxiety, and what you have said here is very much what I used to go through as a young adult. I had no idea that hiding within me was a person I didn't like, but she came out, anyway. I don't have multiple personality disorder, but I have something on the verge of it. I get anxious, and all of a sudden, it's like I'm watching a movie of myself doing something out of anger. That's called dissociation, and many people use it as a defense mechanism instinctively.

This is some information you can read through and decide if it sounds like you. If it does, there is hope. Medication and talk therapy really help this type of thing, and I'll link you to a site about the most effective therapy. I hope you can start healing the person inside you before you end up doing something that can't be taken back. It's hard enough saying things that hurt others. Sometimes you're forgiven for that. But flying into a rage behind the wheel of a car can mean you'd do something that would hurt you or someone else. That's really hard to take back!

Dang, Are you sure were not twins? I have the same problem. i think im just depressed and unhppy like really bad. Hope All Works out for you.

Thats not bipolar. If you are bipolar, your depression is tempered with periods of extreme ambition and excessive activity. Have you ever stayed up for 3 days straight learning everything there is to know about space travel and rocketry, including starting to build a rocket before crashing back into the blue funk of depression?

For example, if you go to the gym and nearly work yourself to death out of an insatiable obsession with getting into the navy before once again returning to the depths of depression, then you might be bipolar. Otherwise, you're just depressed.

Or you might just be a jerk.

Anger problems and bipolar are two different things!

You are honest, so I will be also. See another Dr., and then another. Keep going until you find 1 that can help you.

Definitely bipolar. But don't think that "depressed" or "bipolar" just means you're high, you're low. It goes much further than that. If you suspect you have this issue, see your regular doctor. He'll send you in the right direction - which will likely be meds. (That's ok, the meds are great)
