Self medication is not the answer to the problem. You need to sit down with your husband and have gut renching conversation about where you want your relationship to grow to, and what it is going to take to get it to that level. And if he isn't ready to be part of the solution in obtaining this goal, he is part of the problem.
Proper medication can help with the roller coaster of emotions.
Emotional abuse is totally unacceptable and he needs to know that it has to stop immediately.
The one thing about living with Bi-Polar is that in order to help your spouse who has the mood disorder you have to take care of yourself first. Because if you aren't, then you are sitting in the problem too.
If he won't go see a therapist, then you go for yourself. Set goals with the therapist on learning boundries and coping skills for the manic stresses your spouse gives you.
Good Luck

Im a wife with bipolar. Lithium is working really well for me so far so i would strongly advise your hubby to get on his meds, and quickly.
Good Luck
