Room won`t stay clean, could I have a disorder?!

Question: My WHOLE LIFE (I`m 17) I have had my room dirty. Well not dirty, but mostly cluttered. All my furniture and closets, bathroom, and floor are covered in things that I have. I have a queen size bed and it has a huge pile of just stuff I have. I sleep on an air mattress every night, ON TOP OF MY STUFF. I can`t bring myself to clean it. But I clean the rest of the house just fine.

Many times when I`m gone for days, my parents clean my ENTIRE MY ROOM (I thank them!). A week later... It`s back to square one.... I don`t understand how I end up doing something like that. Any help? Do I have a hoarding/mental problem?

Hoarding is a form of OCD. it sounds like you have a problem. A therapist can help you determine what the cause is.

yes

haha prolly!

Your answer is in the title of your Question...you say the room "wont stay clean" of course it wont...thats because you have to clean it yourself...everything should have a place where it is kept and when you have finished using something then you have to put it right back in it's place straight away...dirty clothes go into the laundty basket...get your own to keep in there which may help.

its that or your just lazy

I do the same thing. I'll clean the entire house including the bathrooms and when they start to get even a little messy I freak out. But my room is always a wreck! I'm pretty sure i'm just lazy when it comes to my room. It's so easy just to close the door when people vist :)

You might have a "hordring" problem, where you subconciously develope an attachement to things and can't bear to throw them out. That's probabaly not the case though, because "hording" is a serious dissorder, and I'm sure you/family would have picked up on it by now. Spend an entire day sorting through stuff, it might be long and gruelling, but you will feel better once you get things organized and in order. It might not even be the case that you actually have to part with your favourite things, just store them somewhere, a basement or a closet downstairs, and make sure they are labelled and packed away neatly.

On the other paw, I'm a naturally cluttered person. I've never seen anything wrong with it, but lately, I've realized I've misplaced way too many things, and I'm being considered untidy by my family. So I cleaned up, and I can say now, I feel a lot better and organized.

Hello,
You sure you are not ADHD?? This is typical behavior.
Let me see if I can find a pic of a typical ADHDers house....Except mine of course!! LOL

This is typical In the topic search I typed in ADHD and house.

ADD;
Nope it does sound more like OCD.....I would forget where I would put the notes I would make, or misplace them :0( and I collect everything :0( just forget where I put the stuff I collect :0(

This is a habit you've developed. Chucking your stuff where ever it happens to fall is just a learned behaviour from childhood.

You can retrain yourself, you just have to want to.

When you remove a piece of clothing and drop it or throw it, stop and think, then retrieve it and put it where it belongs.

To start making this process possible for you, try mounting some hooks in your room, so you can more easily get things off the floor and bed. When you're routinely using the hooks, try putting things on a hanger ever other time you put something away. Then use hangers two out of three times...

I used to be the same kind of clutter queen. It wasn't until my husband was picking up after me that I felt motivated enough to retrain myself. Love conquers clutter :D

Maybe, your depressed? I dont know just a suggestion as I really dont know you, or maybe you just like to keep every little thing that comes your way, I sometimes get like that myself and I really have to push myself to clean up my room.

Hummm....No, u r just messy.

I dont know about you, but if I clean I cant find anything.
I think as long as you dont have dishes with maggots living on them, you are fine even if it is considered ADD which would relate more with being distracted and thus leaving things where you last used them. OCD would probably be indicated only if you insisted such a place remain cluttered or dirty.
I have to tell people not to move my stuff even at work where my desk looks like a disaster area. I do think I have some ADD in me.

no u dont hav a problem, my kids are just like you, they keep the rest of the house tidy but in there rooms, well you cant see the floor sum days but as they say least they no where things are in there

That sounds like OCD (the scheduling thing) but the keeping-room-clean problem sounds more like ADHD. Get checked by a psychiatrist.
