Alcoholic questions? Please help.....?!

Question: Someone (female,42 years old) i know drinks around 15-20 possibly more beers a day / 7 days a week. This is in a time span of about 6 hours or less each day. This has escalated over the past 3 years. She gives off a strange sweet smell when she is drinking and when she is not. This is not from her breath it seems that she is emitting this from her skin. What is this?
Is this possible effects of kidney/liver failure or damage?

I want to know how long this can continue before her body just gives up and she dies.

Are there any sites with forums that i can ask more in detail help for things pertaining to this along with other issues?

Yes, the skin is a major waste disposal organ and you can smell the booze on a person who is drinking a lot. It is a bad thing, and it's a sign that she drinks way too much (which you already know), but you can't use it to figure out her life span.

Unfortunately, it's really hard to figure that out. Alcoholics defy doctors' expectations and sometimes live longer than you'd think.

However, when someone in your life is drinking a lot and you're worried about them, it is most important to focus on yourself and get whatever help YOU need if this is a big issue in your life. I'm so sorry that this person is not taking care of themselves, it seems important to you. Just remember that you didn't create it and you can't control it, you gotta focus on what you can control.

I bet the smell has to do with the fermentation of the alcohol in her body...I think that when your body breaks down alcohol it can give off a sort of sweet smell.
Yes, there's definitely the possibility of kidney or liver damage (or both.) You can't know how long it will be until they fail or until she dies. It depends on a lot of other factors--her overall health, her weight, how much she drank when she was younger, if she did any drugs, etc. etc. etc.
You can go to aaforum.com or call AA (Alcoholics Anonymous). They will know the most.

I don't know what the smell can be. A person in her state could continue on for decades, or not. There's also the risk of accident.

I know It is not uncommon for heavy drinkers to have an odor permeating from their body. I don't know exactly why though.

She sounds like she does have a problem...the best place to get help from would either be AA or anolon(help for families of alcholics)or a drug and alcohol community place.
AA provides online chat rooms in yahoo(friends of b.w)Or palscene provides actually online meetings that are conducted the same as meetings that are in groups and face to face.Good luck to you and your friend---pls remember she has to want to help herself no one can do it for her but other ppl can help by not enabling her by helping her to purchase alcohol or lending her money to do so.
