Wellbutrin and Lexapro question:?!

Question: I have been taking wellbutrin for depression for about 5 months now. Along with weekly therapy. My depression has not lifted, (ie. crying spells, death thoughts, extreme lows) Lexapro 5mg (10mg broke in half) added to regimen 2 weeks ago. I now feel on top of the world, elated, happy for the first time in years(almost too happy) spent some money on something I could have done without. I was down to 1 pack of cigs a week..now im back too 1 pack a day. other side effects include anti-orgasmatic, waking in middle of night unable to go back to sleep, trouble trying to uninate (have to concentrate to go). I dont want to go back to the eeore depression but am I entering mania?? Oh, also crave alcohol, whats up with that?

It sounds like your medication doses need to be adjusted. It's possible you could be entering mania, as you are describing some symptoms of mania. However, if it is mania (which only a doctor could tell you), it's most likely a hypomania, which is a less extreme form of mania. At any rate, call your doctor and/or make an appointment so you can discuss these new side effects/symptoms. Hope this helps.

lexapro is great

I think the prozac and wellburtin goes well together...... works 4 me, i used to take what u r takin and it didnt help me as good as that one in talkin about )(:

Tell your doctor about these new side-effects - it sounds like you are on too much of the medication. It's hard to say why you are reacting the way you are to the medication, only that it is a mind-altering drug and they can have very strange side effects on the individuals taking them. (When I was on Lexapro my ears wouldn't stop ringing, so loudly that I couldn't even hear the TV, so we switched me to Zoloft and it works fine.)

You don't have to pick between two extremes - being manic or being depressed - you just have to find the right combination of meds that work for you. Talk about these symptoms and your worries with your therapist and see what you can do to adjust your dose and keep you out of the "blue zone". Good luck!

Lexapro has different side effects on different people but I doubt that you are becoming manic. But I bet the urinating problem seems to be an effect of lexapro. It really takes a little time to figure if a drug is causing you problems. Throw away the cigs and forget the alcohol.

You sure need to see your dr. or counselor about the Welbutrin. Somethings work different on some than others and can cause bad thoughts and feelings if not for you, I would check on getting it changed, immediately.I went through several and I didn't like Welbutrin. I am now on Klonopin and Cymbalta, they are good for me.===

I don't think your experiencing mania. I've been on both meds. I'm currently taking Prozac and Wellbutrin.
I read somewhere that once the meds kick in and you are better able to comprhend your actions and make decisions. Whereas when your depressed your very indecisive. I think your experiencing being 'normal' and you have to learn how to deal with it. It may sound stupid but if you've been depressed for a long time it's 'weird' to feel 'normal' again.

Maybe in a way I'm trying to say that when you are depressed you are very numb. Now that your no longer numb your experiencing thoughts and feeling that you haven't in awhile. You just have to adjust.

huh
