I just found out my boyfriend has Tourettes Syndrome, but he doesn't swear?!

Question: So what's wrong then?

Answers: So what's wrong then?

There are all different kinds of symptoms for Tourette Syndrome, not everyone who has it swears uncontrollably... Common symptoms are usually - vocal and behavioral manifestations, like: Uncontrollable - twitching, repeating the same word or phrase, grunting or yelling out of the blue, even Obsessive compulsiveness! Although there are medications/treatments that can help control it!
I think its so important to educate yourself on a loved ones condition, so that you can have a better understanding about it! Here's a link... Hope I could help!...

Tourettes comes in some many forms. My son never swore either but he had other uncontrollable habits. He needs to see a doctor and get on medication. Depending on how severe, he may only be on meds for about 2 months for stop it. Talk to a doctor please.

He may have light facial twitching.

That concept of tourette's comes from comedy movies and it's not really what tourette's is like. Tourette's is a disorder in which you have physical and vocal tics. People will more often make a nonsense noise. It'll hit kind of like like a hiccup. Motor tics are the more common part and may be something like a facial tic of squeezing an eye shut briefly.

Here's the DSM IV entry on Tourette's Disorder. This is the official diagnostic criteria used by psychologists: http://www.psychnet-uk.com/dsm_iv/touret...

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome is a nervous system disorder which causes a person to make repeated and involutary movements and sounds (vocalizations) called tics. There is strong evidence that Tourette syndrome is passed down through families, although the specific gene has not yet been identified. Some evidence suggests that the syndrome is linked to problems in certain areas of brain and the chemical substances (dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine) that help nerve cells talk to one another. Symptoms of Tourette syndrome are usually first noticed during childhood, usually between ages 7 and 10. The most common initial symptom is a facial tic -- other tics may follow. A tic is a sudden, rapid, repeated movement or voice sound (vocalization). Tics can include eye blinking, repeated throat clearing or sniffing, arm thrusting, kicking, shoulder shrugging, or jumping. Tics may occur many times a day, but they tend to improve or worsen at different times. The nature of the tics may vary and change with time.
Contrary to popular belief, use of socially inappropriate words or phrases (coprolalia) occurs in only a minority of patients.
A blood pressure medicine called clonidine has been shown to help control tics. Another drug commonly used is tetrabenazine, but this drug is also linked to movement disorders as well as depression.

Your boyfriend dosent have to swear to have Tourettes they are differant types of it he may just twitch a little.

Tourettes isn't always associated with swearing. Hollywood plays that snydrome to make it look like everybody that has the disease swears constantly. He may have tourettes in a minor way with some things that he may do.
