Was this inappropriate?!

Question: I said "f*ck you" to my doctor (the big-shot specialty psychologist one) today. He was telling me I could trust him and I should've paged him this last week, blah blah blah. THEN he said that he does not talk to his patients for 24 hours after they have 'hurt themselves,' because he does not want to show any attention toward the matter. I didn't do what I did to 'hurt myself.' I tried like hell to off myself. So I said "**** you." (Among other things, but I don't remember exactly what. They weren't exactly complimentary.) He kept his composure pretty well, but I think he was a bit surprised. I was so f*cking mad though.

Anyone else insulted a therapist? Was this way out of line?

TOTALLY APPROPRIATE. They are getting paid big bucks either from a State subsidary or by insurance companies, by you in the form of co-payments or all of the above. You are there to tell him whats on your mind so he can determine what would be the best course of treatment for you. You need not apologize for speaking your mind. If he cant see that, you need another doctor. We went through a plethora of doctors. The last one, I went with my son just to see what was going on. The first thing out of Dr. Karan Galhibs mouth is "I cant help you" then he gave us the bums rush outta there cuz he wanted to go home. That was the last time we saw that quack.

You have to feel comfortable with your doctor. Just like your meds, ya gotta keep changing until you get the right one.

But to answer your question, Yes, it was appropriate for you to tell the doctor exactly what is on your mind and if he takes umbrage, get a new one.

And that 24 hour. I would think thats when ya need him the most.

As b4, Im wishing you the best.

I like possums advise.- DONT WORRY ABOUT IT

Ive done it. Haha. And no that was reasonable.

Immature. If you don't respect him, how helpful can he be to you?

i have & mine kept professional about it & they shouldnt act like that. if you insault them , thats not nice. no matter what happens, no need to be like that to someone, especially an adult. doesnt talk about it after a person hurts themselves? whoa! it shouldnt be like that, they should talk about it. who the heck are you seeing for a doctor? someone who doesnt know how to do their job! plus you need to have respect for those sort of doctors. if you dont have respect, they wont be the same back. thats with anyone!

It wasn't appropriate, but its hard to gage in the context. Evidently it sounds like he let it go, so should you. He also sounds like a good doctor.

I think its pretty common. Outside of the fact I was a quiet kid when i went to therapy I know if I had the balls I probably would have told mine to **** off on more than one occasion. I know my friends actually told his therapist similar things and i mean come on, its impossible not to get mad at them every once in a while. I think in your situation its Understandable.

I haven't insulted a therapist before but the 24 hours thing sounds insane. If you need to talk to your therapist you need to talk! There is a difference between encouraging the matter by paying too much attention, but ignoring it for 24 hours is crazy!
Whether you were trying to just hurt yourself or not, people don't generally do that for attention anyway, they use it as a coping mechanism. All the research I've done on the net says that!
A therapist should be ready for whatever is thrown at them. They are being paid for it!
The problem with any sort of doctor or specialist is they do their training then are qualified. But they still have their own opinions and ideas on things that no training will change. Doesn't sound like the best therapist to me!

I got so angry once I picked the chair up and hurled it across the room of my shrinks office!!!

Yeah a lot of us get wound up by our shrinks! They have a way of getting on our very last nerve!

Don't worry about it. It will be good for him to know that you don't take his crap!!

I have a question too, about my control shrink if anyone can help me???

He has every right to run his practice how he feels is most effective and likely to bring results for his patients. if you cant trust him and cant be bothered find yourself another doctor that cares about you less.

U think that's bad? I've wnet off on a teacher (cursing, insulting and the whole shabang) in front of the entire class. Needless to say I had detention for about three weeks but....
At least your therapist won't cal your parents.

No i dont think it was good or bad. Its probably better to be honest in your feelings to a psychologist, isnt that the point?
I would consider it fine to say that to him lol.

by the way im one of the people who responded to a question of yours about you killing youself and i have to say i was just very happy to find out your still alive! you werent asking questions and i thoght you were dead
