Porn vs blockbuster movies?!
Question: There seems to be alot of people againts porn, women say it is degrading towards them and it causes men to think that all women are for pleasure.
My question is that if that is true what are movies like the saw movies doing to people.
My question is what is more damaging to a persons mental health, a simple porn movie showing acts of sexual intercourse or a movie of people being tortued and killed, like saw, hostel etc.
there seems to be different rules for sex (which every human does it, well nearly every human) and people being torutured and hacked to bits.
And i am aware of the movies of tourture, etc are fake but still the depiction is just vivid as in real life.
And i dont care if you dont watch one or the other the question is what is the most damaging to a persons mental health.

I think horror movies are more damaging to a person's mental state by far. Think of nightmares children (and some adults) have from seeing only a glimpse of terror.
Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Leprechaun, Poltergeist, Exorcist... I could go on.... and so can you, I bet. Just the name of these movies send images to your brain of blood, screams, weapons, and death.
Mentally damaging? Hell yeah! That's why the news reports keep getting more and more gruesome. Movies make crime out to be an exciting rush.
Porn makes people dream of having sexual experiences.... and sometimes wake up sticky.... but NOT crying!
The down side to it is exposing children to porn can cause them to become sexually active... and... take for granted that the act of copulation is reserved for mature relationships. Not to mention, most porn depicts unprotected sex, so kids are already mislead into thinking contracting STDs can't be such a big deal. Ughh... sad.
We adults know porn is "f#cking," which is WAAAAY different from making love. Most of us watch it to see if we can learn a new trick of something. However, (most) adults are emotionally mature to know the difference and the consequences.
Guarding the avenues of your soul in this millennium isn't easy.
I think the gory movies like hostel are more damaging, because they desensitize people to violence. Some porn can be as bad, but not all.
I think both are bad. You said a simple video showing intercourse, but that is not porn and you know it. Porn is not simple intercourse between a loving couple, it is kinky crap and fantasy crap that guys get off on and some girls. Saw is horrid and I think that stuff needs to be in the back section with the porn too. But then that is just my opinion. What you feed your mind on is very important. How do you think? Have you been desensitised by porn or shock gore? If you saw a murder on the street would it shock you today like it would have 10 years ago? If someone did a sexual act in front of you today would it shock you like it would have 10 years ago? It all boils down to how worn down we have all become from seeing this stuff day in and day out. Think about it and you will know I am right.
Hi you bring up a great point. The issue here is people are so drilled about how terrible sex is in this country. The waves of up-tights trying to always pass their judgment on everyone else. Therefore making anything even related to the act such a taboo sin. The fact being that all the acts in porn films are actually things most open minded people do,like it or not. The things portrayed in movies such as Saw and Hostel are far more of a mental damaging variety. People usually don't go around chopping folks up for fun or pleasure. Yet that's exactly what these movies are about. They are both just as graphic in their own right. I have no problem admitting to having both...Horror and Porn films and have yet to become demented or psychologically damaged. I don't chop people up and I still open doors for the ladies...so there you go!
Well, the most damaging to a person's mental health would probably be those torture movies, but I highly doubt porn would mentally damage you in the first place.
They can all be damaging to your thoughts and influence but I think that there is something very real about porn that we know is fake in other movies....so I would say since porn is real and while some porn is erotic there is much that is profane and demeaning to women, and a lot of women are in need of the money they are getting to do it and are not doing it for pleasure...which is sad.... so my final answer is that while Rambo is not good for you, porn is worse for everyone....
Neither affects mental health. Horror movies involve your imagination to get the "feel" of the situation. Porn involve your imagination to imagine you are in the situation. Mental health problems are caused by imbalances of the fluids in the brain. It cannot be caused by outside influences. If you have mental health problems that are very severe you probably would have the same reaction to Debbie Does Dallas, Halloween and Bambi. Don't forget that in most Disney movies the mother is either killed or dead.
Horror movies are fiction. You know that going in. If you are not into horror movies don't go. I do not like them, havent seen one in 15+ years. If they are on TV, I change the channel or turn the TV off. Fiction is fiction, the premiss of the entire idea is just to scare you. If you like it go, if not don't.
As for Porn, porn does not degrade anyone. The people involved are involved because of the money and because they enjoy what they do. When they get tired of it they quit. Think of a marriage. When you first are married there is not enough times in the day to make love, really to have sex. Later in a marrage making love is weigh more important then just having sex. Porn is just entertainment and fanasty fulfillment. Again it is just fiction. Worse dialog and acting, then most movies but just as phoney.
If you want to watch any kind of movie, watch it. If you are offended by any kind of movie don't watch it. This goes for books, comics, jokes, stories, and TV shows. Remember one persons trash is another's collection.
I don't think either is harmful to adults in any way, but either one could be potentially hurtful to children, and yes, sex is much more common and less harmful than brutal violence, but the sex depicted in porn can be very violent and bizarre and not likely the kind of sex every human is likely to have, or should expect to. As far as porn be degrading to women though, like I once heard a porn producer say, "anyone who thinks porn is degrading to women has obviously never seen gay porn." lol.
Blockbuster Movies are a chance to sit back and relax and watch; as for Porn: IF I CAN'T PARTICIPATE, I DON"T WANT TO WATCH!
