Bipolars - what kind of work do you do?!

Question: My husband is bipolar II, college educated, but unable to find (or do) suitable work. Just wondering if other bipolars work and if so, at what. Thanks.

i work from home - i run an organisation for bipolar/schizoaffective disorders.

this way i get to pick my own hours, take a step back when the stress gets too much and take time off when i need it. before that i worked a high stress job and it sent me crazy. i couldn't even take my med's at the right time with the hours i was working. working from home or part time work that caters to episodes/bad days etc is great ;)

Anyone can work if they let themselves do what they can do but sometimes having an illness, especially those with a mental illness, can be very difficult to keep a job & stay stable enough. If stable, on right meds then there shouldn't be a problem. Some people just can't work, just I'd say don't work too much or stress will build up & will make things more difficult. Jobs know a days, a lot of people don't understand, but there are jobs where the the boss understands & is willing to work with their workers.

I would suggest that you be honest and upfront with any future employers. Some will sympathize and understand the nature of the problem and will be far more flexible about schedule and days off if they are aware of the problem.

Yes, some employers will be turned off by it. But aren't those the type you really don't want to work for?

Hi Mrs.E.,Tough life with a bipolar.I have a friend who has this and a mother with a profound mental illness. If he made it thru 4 year college-WONDERFUL.Hopefully he is under DR. care and medicated. If not the life will be holy h--ll.Stress is a huge factor, so work where he can know whats required of him and his time limits are a must. Most are very bright and gifted, just don't let them con you that they cant work.Home businesses ,stocks, computer skills are all good.Whats his degree in? Keep sane and then some.
