What is the best way to treat this particular symptom of depression?!

Question: I'm in college, and have been experiencing this since at least high school. I'm unable to concentrate at all in class. I find it literally impossible to pay attention and instead sort of sit there and stare and feel tired and worn out. I suspect it is a symptom of depression, since I've been diagnosed with that before. What is the best way to treat this symptom? If it's medication, is there a particular medication that might target this symptom? Thanks.

Inability to concentrate is a hallmark symptom of depression, so you do need a workup by the doc. You should use a drug that the doctor thinks is best for you, but norepinepherine is involved in concentration, so Effexor and Cymbalta are good choices. However, any drug that treats the depression should also treat the concentration. Good luck.

You need to see a doctor.

SSRI's work well at targeting the ability to concentrate.
Your Dr. is the best one to identify which one will work best for you.

Any medication a dr. would recommend would address lack of concentration problems. In the meantime try and walk for atleast 15 minutes a day so you will help increase the natural serotonin in your brain.
