Don't listen to these other people (except the one who said to go to the ER), listen to me. It's great that you can see what's happening to you and come to Yahoo! to ask your on-line community for help. What you need to do is GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM NOW AND TELL THEM WHAT YOU'VE TOLD US. Right now you can see you need help, so go while you still can. Calling and asking to move your appointment up won't work, and you know that - they'll just tell you they have no openings. People who've never tried to get help through the mental health system don't know how difficult it is. Yes, everyone talks to themselves sometimes but NOT in the way you describe, and the hallucinations are a BIG RED FLAG. Go to the ER, honey, as soon as you can.

call your local crisis line or talk to someone at the Hospital ER or walk in clinic...

Clarissa - EVERYBODY talks to themselves all the time.

According to Transactional Analysis psychology, we each have three aspects of mind: The Child, The Adult and The Parent.

Before we are born we are only The Child. The Child part of the mind is our feelings, wants, needs and our physical self. The Child part of the mind is the part that says, "I'm hungry, I'm sleepy, I'm angry, I have to go to the bathroom, etc."

When we are born, the second aspect of the mind, The Adult, begins to record everything that we experience and learn. This aspect is like a little computer. It has no feelings or judgments, it is strictly factual. This is the part of the mind that says, "2+2= 4, the sky is blue, the number 7 bus runs on that street."

The third aspect of mind, The Parent, begins to develop after birth when we begin to interact with other people. Like a real parent to a real child, The Parent aspect of the mind is designed to meet the needs and wants of The Child. The Parent is a compilation of any adult caregivers (parents, teachers, clergy, older siblings) and carries the messages of all those people who influenced us. The Parent is the part of the mind that takes care of us ("eat your vegetables, wear clean underwear, look both ways when you cross the street") and directs us ("you shouldn't eat that, brush your teeth"). The Parent is also the part of the mind that carries our judgments ("those types of people are bad, that is wrong"). Sadly, The Parent is the part of the mind that criticizes you ("you are stupid, you can't do anything right"), the part that tells you it's wrong to talk about people..

People talk to themselves because we are always and constantly shifting from one aspects of mind to another. A typical conversation between all aspects might go like this:

It's lunchtime
The Child: I'm hungry
The Adult: It is noon
The Parent: You SHOULD eat something healthy
The Child: I want a burger
The Adult: We had a burger yesterday
The Parent: Burgers are bad for you, eat something healthy

In a perfect world, all three aspects of the mind work together so that you would have a good life.

So stop worrying about talking to yourself and STOP SCARING yourself. You are not losing your mind, you are not paranoid.

I dont think there is much you can do except try to stay calm until you get to see someone. Good luck!

You need to go talk to a counselor. It sounds like you could have schizophrenia. You might need medication.

The only way to be sure is to see a doctor and tell them what you are experiencing. Please do so as soon as possible.

Get an earlier appointment or call a therapist that can get you in within a day or two.

I think that you are on the right track in getting in to speak to someone. Talking to yourself isn't what I would be concerned about. Especially since you inner voice tells you when you are doing something wrong or inappropriate. But, seeing things is or having hallucinations is frightening. What I would do is call the clinic and explain your fears and symptoms. Ask if you could be seen sooner by someone. They may consider your situation serious enough to schedule you in on an emergency basis.

In the meantime, do you have a close friend or family member that you can talk to?

As Dr. Freedman has said in regards to talking to a teddy, "Does he talk back?"
Believe it or not, it's not uncommon to talk to yourself from time to time. It helps to put things out in front of yourself and crystallize your thoughts when it can't be done internally for one reason or another. But there's a couple criteria that must be observed: 1. Are you listening to yourself too? If so, that's a good thing. 2. Are you getting answered back? If so, that might be bad.
At one time it was considered weird to see somebody walking down the street engaging themselves in a conversation with themselves. Now we have to do a double take to make sure there's not a Blue tooth headset on the other ear.
As this is gone to a point where it has affected you and your emotional well being, I might recommend seeing a therapist. They have them at the local health department in your county and charge from very reasonable to nothing depending on your financial situation. And from there they might recommend a psychiatrist if it's a more extensive issue. In this case there's fear of fear itself. Let go of it. As long as there's not any ideation of suicide or homicidal tendencies present or self abuse for that matter, relax. You are going in the right direction and are going to get help. Just hang in there for a bit and take it one day at a time.

yes, you do

thats scary..

It sounds as if you may have bipolar/anxiety disorder (the same I think, though I'm not sure), which is what I used to have. There is a cure.

What happens is that the subconscious mind has taken control of the conscious mind, & making you do & say things that you know consciously aren't right. You have to consciously make an effort not to talk to yourself for a while. You say you can't, but you can. It just takes real effort at first, and then gets easier after a while. It's all about utilizing the power of your conscious mind to dominate your subconscious mind into submission.

The disturbing vision is all about lack of oxygen in the mind. If you feel tense and anxious then you don't breathe properly enough for fresh oxygen to get into the brain for it to function properly, so you get scary thoughts & visions. Going on a run or long walk everday should help you divert your thoughts & breathe better.
