Can I get rid of OCD ON MY OWN?!

Question: I am only 13.I seem to have all the symptoms of OCD,it scares me so much!I wanna know what it's like to live a normal life,I've had the symptoms since like,a long time ago and I really wanna stop! Please tell me what can I do without going to a specialist or taking medicine. My sister had anxiety and panic attacks before,if this had something to do with it...
But PLEASE I don't wanna talk about it to my parents, they always think I'm "overreacting"and I'm sure they don't even know it exists,or it's a disorder, they just think I can be weird...and I'm not even sure they can afford me therapy or anything.PLEASE tell me is there a way to beat OCD without special medication or therapy?Thanx in advance

Hey hun, I'm sorry you're dealing with this. If you can't talk to your parents, maybe there's someone else you trust at school or one of your friend's parents. It really is important to get help for this.

But, one thing you can try is a technique called "thought stopping" combined with a negative stimulus. Here's the idea: Let's say that you're obsessed with counting your steps. First, put a thick rubber band on your wrist. Then, whenever you start counting, pop the band and silently tell yourself "No, I don't need to do this!" Replace the thought with something else immediately, preferably something positive, like, "I'm in control of this situation".

I do think you should talk to someone, but this may help you. Good luck and take care of yourself.

how do you know you have ocd? get a proper diagnosis and tell your parents - you're only 13, you don't know everything yet

Over compulsive disorder, Hum; I don't see why not. Just try your hardest to let things be without having the urge to fix it or them. Soon it will become second nature.

try forms of meditation..just relax, close your eyes, and picture a place and time in your life that was just perfect and stay there. observe everything you see, smell, feel, etc. This will help you to not think so much - and when you're OCD you're mind is always thinking! I'm bipolar and I don't take meds or go to therapy and I have to manage it on my own all the time and this helps me...it's tough, but if you know what's wrong with you then you know exactly how you need to stop it!

If you think you have OCD, then I would suggest that you tell your parents and perhaps ask them if they would be able to take you to your doctor.

Your doctor may then be able to refer you to a councilor that may be able to help you with this.

Good luck!

You're only 13, so at this age it's very hard to separate OCD from adolescent stuff. But try the school counselor if they're any good. And many OCD sufferers have had excellent results from yoga and meditation. Turn your OCD tendencies on reading up on how to develop a meditation practice. If you can use Yahoo!Answers, you can google meditation how-to info. It will truly help. Get to it.

talk to a school counsellor .. there is lots of places u could go .. for free..... mom and dad will understand

you obviously have ocd. i am 16 and have had it for 2 years. please tell your parents, i eventually told them how bad it was 2 weeks ago and they have been great. if you feel you cant tell your parents, then please tell a friend or a teacher, it will feel soooo much better that you have told someone.
i recommend going to the doctors, i did and he is now referring me to a therapist and i am glad he is as i cannot cope.
good luck
