Am I bipolar?!

Question: Sometimes I'll be in really good moods... and i know they won't last very long and then soon after I feel depressed or angry. It seems that nothing is causing this..cause sometimes I'll be happy with everything in my life..and the next minute i'll feel so low i'd rather be dead.. like there's no hope at all for me. I've considered this before but I never really thought anything of it becuase sometimes I don't feel that way for weeks, then it hits me and I'm back that way again. It ruins relationships with people because If I'm feeling irritated for whatever reason,(most of the time I don't know why) then I take it out on them.

PLEASE help.. I dont know what it is but I'd really like to know what you all think!
Thanks in advance.
xx

Bipolar Disorder (Manic-Depression) symptoms are characterized by an alternating pattern of emotional highs called 'mania' and lows of 'depression'. The intensity of signs and symptoms can vary from mild to severe. There may even be periods when your life doesn't seem affected at all.

You probably shouldn't be relying on the Yahoo Answers community to diagnose your potential mental health issue.

While what you are describing sound like a bipolar condition, it's impossible for anyone here to tell you yes or no. I highly suggest you seek out a doctor, or talk to a counselor at your school (if you're a student...).

Hope you get this solved!

Hey, I'm currently majoring in Psychology so hopefully I can help you. You say that you have been monitoring these symptoms for a while, that's good. You have realized that you may have a problem and you are trying to fix it so good for you. Do you feel that your mood changes rapidly between really really happy and then really really depressed? Bi-polarism changes from person to person, and so do their "cycles" of extreme happiness to extreme depression. If you feel that your mood swings aren't really caused by anything and are something to be worried about, i think you should see either a psychologist or psychiatrist. You also said that you think this is affecting your relationships so obviously there is something wrong. I would recommend seeking counseling for this.

Manic Depressive.

Hey:

Listen there is a cause for everything the important thing is to be honest to your self and find out whats is the cause of your anger may be something that happened long time ago, or you may need to see a professional or check family records if the case of genetic depression or an allergy test; Do you suffer from rhinitis or get sick often?

My friend was like that, and earlier this year, she finally went to the doctor and got diagnosed with bipolar. So you should definitely check with your doctor, because you don't want anything bad to happen in the future (you get a serious bout of depression and think about suicide or something like that). Get professional help!

Ok, Rebecca....What kind of ddumbaass says, "I am majoring in psychology, so I can help?" Oh, and then you ask, "Do you feel really happy, then really sad?" Didn't she say that already? God, some people are so stupid and Rebecca's a college student. JESUS F'ING CHRIST.

Well I am bipolar and you sound like you could be go see a psychairist to be sure. Good Luck

see a doctor and have it professionally checked out.

See bipolar disorder, at ezy-build * (below) in section 10, and take the quiz, if unsure, and if the results are positive, ensure you get an expert diagnosis from a mental health professional, not doctors, who are much better dealing with physical ailments, and don't diagnose complex disorders like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and borderline personality disorder often enough to develop any real expertise. Bipolar disorder usually involves major moodswings, which occur without apparent cause, and often over many months, or a matter of years, rather than days, as with most people (unless rapid cycling). I'd take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements daily, replacing 2 of them with cod liver oil supplements in the winter months. If you decide to use allopathic (modern Western) medicine, I recommend trying Lithium Carbonate, or Lithium Citrate (regular tests are necessary, for these), before trying the other mood stabilisers, but if you aren't good at taking medications regularly, drinking adequate water, and keeping up your salt intake, something else may suit you better. Always check out anything first at http://www.drugs.com/, so you will be aware of the risks, and on the lookout for side effects. (Personally, if I wasn't bipolar type 1, and didn't experience hallucinations, or serious delusional states, I know I'd first try the orthomolecular and Omega 3 fish oil supplements, vitamins, minerals, and mostly raw food diet, for several months. I'd aso eat in accordance with my "nutritional type". Enter that term in the searchbar at http://www.mercola.com/ ). If not considerably improved, after several months, consult your primary mental health care provider. If bipolar type 1, an antipsychotic medication may also be needed. Everyone should take the Omega 3 supplements, or preferably "krill oil" for its other health benefits: use the searchbar at http://www.mercola.com/ . Some people refuse medication, using supplements, and a selective, mostly raw food diet (I do not recommended trying this, if bipolar 1, unless you aren't troubled by hallucinations, or delusional states). Maintain the treatments for the depressive phase, in section 2, at * http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris

Unfortunately, depression can be caused by so many problems. This could be strictly physical or combination physical and mental. No one can really say until they are
qualified to study your case to help you. I agree with the others that you should see a professional that was the easy part. The hard part is yours, you had to recognize that you
have symptoms that weren't quite normal. This must be really hounding you to bring it up on the answere and question
charts. That took alot of guts. Just don't wait too long
before you seek help. By the way you never mentioned your age? Your age is a very important role playing in your problem. Check it all out . And realize the answer does not
lie here!

Keep track of your symptoms along with your monthly menstrual cycle. You could have emotional ups and downs like that with PMS, combined with that depressive tendency, or it could be bipolar, or nothing much at all. PMS can make underlying depression or bipolar worse. I always blew off that PMS thing, until my husband kept track. Geez, you can just count on a fight that time of the month! Some women get it really bad, then it is called PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder).

Hope you go see a counselor or doc for advice. Good luck to you!
