How many of you are on prozac for depression and does it really help you?!

Question: Different SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors -- the class of drugs to which Prozac belongs) have different results in each individual. I was on Prozac a number of years ago for generalized anxiety and depression. For me it was effective. So, if you are just asking if it helped me, yes it did. Will it help you? Only you and your physician/psychiatrist can determine this.

The thing to keep in mind is that no pill *by itself* is going to kick depression--or any emotional illness. You will not just wake up one morning and all of a sudden be cured. The individual must make cognitive and lifestyle changes to beat depression. SSRIs facilitate the ability to do this in persons with emotional illness.

Ive never been on Prozac and I thought Prozac was only for O.C.D.
Im on Zoloft for depression and O.C.D.
and it works for me but not completely though

I am . I'm not sure if it was given for depression but more for mood swings. I can deal with things much calmer now without flying of the handle about stuff.

That's a loaded question. The answer is that it may or may not. That is because with psychiatric drugs different people act differently while taking them. I took Prozac for a year and it made me too mellowed out. I didn't care about anything good or bad so I had to stop taking them because it zombified my emotional output.

I was put on Prozac about 10 years ago, for depression. It didn't help me at all. In fact I felt worse when I was on Prozac, than I did before (I didn't think it was possible to feel worse). I couldn't sleep when on Prozac, and I could hear even the smallest sound that I couldn't hear (or didn't notice) before. It did not work for me.
