Is there such a thing as season depression??!

Question: It seems to happen to me every year around this exact time. January - February. For some reason I get really depressed and down on myself. I lose all self-esteem, self confidence, and become this totally negative person. But for some reason I seem to do fine the rest of the year.

Whenever I think of the Summer, or warm weather, I feel a warm fuzzy nostalgic feeling. Kind of like when the warm weather gets here is when this all goes away.

Is there such a thing as seasonal depression? Why does the Winter seem to bring me down?

Yes infact there is. It is more than just "the winter blues."

Seasonal depression, often called seasonal affective disorder (SAD), is a depression that occurs each year at the same time, usually starting in fall or winter and ending in spring or early summer.

Symptoms of winter SAD include:

Fatigue
Increased need for sleep
Decreased levels of energy
Weight gain
Increase in appetite
Difficulty concentrating
Increased desire to be alone

Yeah. Everything being...cold, dead, and gray sorta brings people down.

Then Spring and Summer it's warm and there's a lot of colors.

yes its called seasonal affective disorder. its because theres not as much sun during the winter months and the nights are longer than the days.

Yes, it's called seasonal affective disorder and is caused by the lack of sunlight in the winter months. Pretty good article on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_af...

Yes, Seasonal Affective Disorder is actually fairly common, especially in the dark winters of northern climes. You'd be surprised to find out how many people in Russia and Scandinavia suffer from it.

Go to the store and get one of those lights that mimics real sunlight... those are supposed to really help people with SAD. You could also talk to a mental health professional for other therapies if you need to.
