Answers: D @ A treatment center, scaried, 30 day inpatient,im freaking out

i have been threw the 12 steps quite a few times and honestly they will only work if you want them to

* Step 1 - We admitted we were powerless over our addiction - that our lives had become unmanageable
* Step 2 - Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity
* Step 3 - Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood God
* Step 4 - Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves
* Step 5 - Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs
* Step 6 - Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character
* Step 7 - Humbly asked God to remove our shortcomings
* Step 8 - Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all
* Step 9 - Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others
* Step 10 - Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it
* Step 11 - Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood God, praying only for knowledge of God's will for us and the power to carry that out
* Step 12 - Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to other addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs

I have a copy in my pocket, but I don't want to type them in. You can google them.

Yes, they work. But they're not magic.

The original writers were alcoholics, and they came to the conclusion that they were powerless in the face of their addiction, and had to turn to God.

They combined this with a support group of fellow alcoholics, who would come at a phone call and talk fellow sufferers through a crisis.

Don't be scared - you're doing a wonderful thing for yourself and your family by getting the help you need. My brother didn't get that help and he is no longer alive - please, stay in the program and don't be scared. The alternative is much scarier!

12 step programs work very well for some but not for others - it's a preference, really. It can't hurt to try it. One of my very best friends is in AA and my husband's grandmother was a very active AA member all the way up until she passed away of old age. I will post the steps below. Just go to a meeting. It certainly can't hurt. Worst case you don't like it - best case, it helps you move on with your life.

Good luck!!!!

The twelve step program of AA does work if you are willing to work the steps. The first step is admitting you are powerless over alcohol and that your life has become unmanageable. They go on from there but you have to take them one at a time.

I don't think they do, but it depends on the person. I found that my d & a use was a behavior; 12 steppers beleive they have no control over their problems and need a external force to help them. I have control over everthing in my life. At on time I didn't, but I figured it out.

My advice is to try it, but if it doesn't work, don't get disgourged, just try another method. Try looking at who and what causes the behavior, once you know what it is, remove them/it from your life and find some positive hobbies that will give you confidence to live with out d & a.

Either way, Good Luck!

Yes I believe they can be most helpful to any situation b/c they teach you the value to turn to your higher power. And the lessons enrich you all your life and Learn the slogans WOW they help so much.Scared, Yes but don't hold back. They all might seem like looneytunes, but you'll find your way give it time.
