How can I prevent panic attacks?!

Question: Lately I've been having them at least 3-5 times a day. Sometimes they're triggered by stessful situations and sometimes they just come from out of the blue.

Oh man, I remember when my life was like that. You can see your doctor, who can prescribe you medicine to help prevent them. They're probably from a chemical imbalance, a lack of sertonin. If you don't want to take medicine (by the time I was having that many a day though, I was ready for almost anything to stop them!), there are relaxation techniques you can practice to at least limit the number you'll have, like yoga, guided imagery, music therapy, etc. I highly recommend breathing exercises. The one that calms me down everytime goes like this: you breathe in for 4 counts, hold your breath for 7, and exhale for a full 8 counts. Good luck! I also recommend Dr. Andrew Weil's Mind Body Toolkit, which someone recommended to me for my anxiety. Look it up on amazon.

See your local doctor

If they're happening that frequently throughout the day - you need medical attention NOW.

Hi--Learning how to relax may help you head off a panic attack. You can learn to relax through a variety of techniques, such as meditation, muscle relaxation, relaxed breathing and guided imagery (visualization).

Relaxation is more than getting away from the work-a-day grind, and it's more than the absence of stress. It's a specific, intentional action that's positive and satisfying
