A question about alzheimers....?!
Question: my grandmother is in the late stages of alzheimers. my grandfather has done nothing to prepare for it, has been in complete denial, and insists on their continuing to live in their two story house. my grandmother has no idea who this "strange person" is, and often has violent outbursts. my mom and my aunts have tried talking to him, to get him to see someone, to look at places where she can go, recommended support groups, asked him if he wanted someone to take her out for a few hours each day...the list goes on and on. is there anything that i could do to help him realize he's just hurting everybody by avoiding the issue? I work at a facility like this, and it's very nice. i think that if he came with me one day, he might get it. do you think i'm being naive? is there anyway i can help?? thanks for any suggestions.

Did you ever consider the fact that they have not been apart for most of their lives and that he is scared. Have you looked into homes that will take the both of them? Remember, your grandfather made a vow to your grandmother, for better or for worse. The times that they made them in were not like the ones now, when they made those vows they meant them (literally). I hope that you find a solution that makes you all happy, and safe. Best of luck
