Would going to a psychiatrist bar me from future gun ownership?!

Question: what are the psychological issues that would ban one from buying a gun?

Answers: what are the psychological issues that would ban one from buying a gun?

I'm not sure about it barring you from future gun ownership (it does seem that this is one area of gun rights that will be one of the first to fall). I do think it (mental illness) would bar you from obtaining a concealed/carry permit in some states.

Gun ownership and mental illness can be a lethal combo. BUT, many times it is NOT. It only takes a few high visibility news clips of some horror to make people think stereotypically about guns owned by mentally ill people.

The mental illness needs to be addressed first. The weapons need to be stored with a dependable friend in a safe location until the mentally ill person is stabilized and can make a decision on whether to keep them.

none and no

i dont think so but u may want to check with ur state

any doctor (councellor/therapist) can not tell anyone anything by law unless it endangers your life or someone elses, if you were talking about shooting someone yeah chances are they may make it so you cant buy a gun but that would be a good thing!

LET'S TAKE CARE OF THE OF THE MENTAL PROBLEM FIRST,AND WELL WORRY ABOUT THE GUN LATER

sorry, dear, but if you think you need professional help in that department, worrying about a future gun ownership would be the last thing to keep me from going...

and from all the nutcases running amok in the sad history of the US, I sincerely doubt any kind of psychological issue would ban you from owning a gun.

But owning a gun may make you a psychological issue...

;)

yeah, come on, give me the thumbs down, if you like

Love, nevertheless

No, they are Dr.'s they are not the law, they can make suggestions to people and give opinions but the law is the only one who can take baring arms from you.

There is no ban against crazy people owning guns, unless they have been convicted of a felony, of course. When you buy a gun they do a criminal background check, that would not include a check into your mental health.

in some states, individuals with suicidal or violent tendencies bared from purchasing weapons...but most states don't have an effective way of keeping this tab (i.e. it can show up when your driver's license is scanned/checked)....

if you are purchasing the gun for any of those reasons, I urge you to not let yourself have that temptation near you by purchasing the gun.

only if you are commited by law and have a felony on your record will you not be able to own a legal gun.
