How would you go about recommeding counseling to a friend?!

Question: My friend (which I've talked about on yahoo answers before) is extremely emotionally unstable. She goes from being extremely happy to extremely pissed/sad over something minor. I have a man and kids and she has a hard time understanding that they ALWAYS come first. She has been through about 10 boyfriends in the past year because she fights with them over really stupid things.

She's only 18 and has been telling guys she sterile in attempt to get pregnant. She has even faked miscarriages for attention. I am really concerned about her mental health.

I know she needs help and I want to suggest to her that she gets it. Yet, she's the type to fly off the handle over EVERYTHING. I don't know how to put it nicely and calmly. I know either way, she's going to go "crazy" when I say it.

HELP ME!!

Most importantly to make sure she goes, i would offer to go with her. Like you said you are a busy woman, but if you can show her support by suggesting then going with her, she would feel better about going......she sounds bi-polar though. MY brother inlaw acts this way and that is what he has.

Good luck!

Be as sensitive about it as possible when you approach the subject with her.

I can't wait to see what useful adivce you get as I have an acquaintance that certainly IS bi-polar and he refuses to believe it. I'd really like to see him get help because it's affecting his life negatively in so many ways. (For one, he wonders why he can't keep friends for long. Hmmm... maybe it's the horrific mood swings? It's one of two main things that drove me away. I still care about him, but for my own good I had to separate from that atmosphere. I still talk to him and support him... just not nearly as often as I used to.)

What do you see when you close your eyes? And what about when you open them? How dramatic is the difference? We are entitled to our fantasies. Indeed, we really ought to see them as essential to our well-being. What's the point of a life without dreams? It's true too, that some dreams are best left unfulfilled. They are more enjoyable in the imagination than they would ever be in reality. Yet every so often, we have to get a little of what we want, if only to maintain the tantalising illusion that the rest might just be attainable.
