Can constant anxiety/panic/paranoid issues cause weight gain?!

Question: I have the worst panic issues. I worry that there are warrants for my arrest (thought I've not done ANYTHING). I worry over everything. I have been diagnosed the General anxiety disorder and take Zanax for it, but it's not helping. I have gained over 30lbs sense this started and was wondering if this could cause weight gain? I've not changed my diet or anything but just keep gaining weight, it's frustrating. I tried working out, and eating right but to no prevail the weight just won't come off and just keeps creeping up.

Any advise would be appreciated. At this point I'm about 100lbs over the "healthy" weight that they have set out for a person my size/height.

Thanks!

If you have anxiety issues, It's kind of hard to get out and get the exercise you may have been used to getting. Also, as we age, we tend to gain weight, even keeping the same daily diet as before. Also, some meds will cause weight gain, but I don't think Zanax is one of them. Hope I've helped.

lucky u i have opposite problem i look anorexic gd luk wiv the weight loss

I have heard that treatments like this can alter your metabolism and hence cause weight gain. Ask your doctor to help and maybe try alternative medication.

It would be good to try and cope with the panic attacks without medication through relaxation exercises or therapy.

The medication could cause weight gain, but the gain could also be a mix of stress and stress eating. Stress all by itself can really throw your body out of whack hormones-wise and otherwise, so that may be your culprit.

If Xanax isn't helping, perhaps you could talk to your doctor about changing the dose or else taking something else. I had good results with Klonazepam, which is similar to Xanax. It comes in a generic, too, which gave me the same results as the brand name. Good luck!

Yes if you are eating to sooth these emotions, But these things can also make you lose weight as well, I'd see a Dr. something else may be going on that only a Dr. can spot!
