One of the reasons I started taking Wellbutrin is b/c I experienced a very flattened affect and weight gain with both Lexapro and Celexa (SSRIs) - no excitement or pleasure, just as you described. Wellbutrin significantly helped this. One example is that It makes me want to go out with friends b/c I finally get something out of it. Laughing is no longer a rare thing. Sex is fun again. I am able to feel interested in things again, which is a miracle. It gives me overall energy, too (nothing jittery, just making everyday things not seem like huge endeavors). At first I had almost every side-effect listed, but after about 20 days things calmed down. I've been on it for 6 months. It really aids with weight loss, also. SSRIs made me sleep all the time and be a zombie when awake. I fully recommend Wellbutrin XL (not Wellbutrin SR).
Worked great for me, but different meds work differently on different people.
The dirty little secret of dopamine reuptake inhibitors is that each one doesn't work for everybody. Because one works for me doesn't mean it will work for you and vice versa. So you have to keep trying until you find the one that works for you. Good luck!
I do suffer from major depression and I'm on Wellbutrin. It has just been increased to the normal dose of 300mg in the last 3 weeks. So far, I'm not noticing much improvement, but I also am also going through a divorce and my father just died in Dec, so I don't know if it's not working because of these extra problems. I do know, it's helping me quit smoking. i've gotten to when I smoke a cigarette, I get nauseaus, which is a good thing, because it makes me not want to light up.
