What is that exactly, is that where you are affected by the seasons? I am tired of the cold weather, I just can't wait to see the colors and hear the sounds of spring.

you can cope with it here http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&clien...

try them lights boxes you can get them from
argos UK
drugstores USA

sunbeds have been suggested, since it's the vit D in the light that goets depleted in winter months.
Personally, i go for a walk every day - even when it's cloudy, some light gets through, & it contains the D vit we need. The exercise also does it's bit for getting rid of depression. :)

I'm the opposite . . . I love it when it "ugly outside" . . .

i used to get thru it with booze, weed, and loose women, this year i added the internet. so far so good.

Yes I think I do. I get depressed sometimes at the start of winter. Dose the light thing really work?

i get it pretty bad... some years i get sick not just depressed. I have no idea how i pull thought i just do... i take a vitamin d supplement but I'm still not absorbing enough of it to work fully it helps a bit

Hey.

I don't suffer from SAD. But I'll tell you what, if I did suffer from it I wouldn't half be proud.

See it from the perspective that you have a closer relationship to nature than most other people. It shows that you're kind and a gentle person. It's also something to look forward to in the spring.

However, I understand it to be difficult. Unfortunately, the weather is all around us and we can't change it. Just try to think of summer time in your head. Re-decorate your house with bright, warm, yellow colours. Maybe even some posters.

Get a UV lamp

I bought a special sunlight lamp which mimics daylight, that was pretty good. However another good method is to try and stand next to a window, close your eyes and the light will pierce through your eyelids.Try this for about 5 minutes in the morning.

Oh, i definitely do. Ugh. I work out at the gym in a tank top and shorts with my ipod, I read a lot. It would help if you bundled up and went on a long walk, with or without music. It'll be cold the first 15 minutes but once you warm up it'll cheer you up! Lots of hot tea, not coffee, because coffee makes you lightheaded and even more sad. I knit and play guitar. Write mopey journal entries, buy new makeup colors, have a star wars movie marathon like me and my husband did this past weekend lol.

Yes i do. I force myself out for a daily walk no matter how cold it is and try to soak up a little sunshine.Than i go home and dream about the beach, barbeques &cold beer in the hot sun. God, I cant wait!

I make sure I go for a walk every lunchtime, to get a good dose of light and fresh air.

Do you have a lightbox? My dad has one and sits in front of it while reading the paper and eating breakfast in the morning for about 30 mins. He says he has excellent results with it. They are expensive but worth the cost, according to him.

Personally, I'm not sure how much of my poor winter mood is SAD and how much is me being very sensitive to cold temperatures and being in pain when I go outside. I feel like I'm wilting inside if I can't get out "in nature" (hiking in the woods or whatever) every few weeks, and that is hard when you have snow from Nov to April. :P

artificle light

very common problem see a doctor.

Go to the tanner! Purchase lights that act like real sun light. enjoy and take part in winter sports. Go to an in door swiming pool often! Like the school or health club. Limit alcohol use. Rent comedy movies and shows. Meditate! Relax the essense is at ease.

there o cure darling we all have to get througfh it in are own way sweetheart only 64 days to spring

Thankfully I don't

my partner suffers with this and i heard about a natural treatment in the form of light therapy - phillips have made a 'wake up light' which mimics the sunrise in the morning so that you wake feeliing refreshed and full of energy. sounds too good to be true but it has helped a lot.

From half an hour before your set wake-up time, light gradually increases to the intensity you selected (250 Lux advised). The light brightens at an optimum rate, following a special curve proven to be most effective. The light falls on your eyes, sending your brain a message to increase the production of cortisol, the energy hormone. This means that at the set alarm time your sleep and energy hormones are better balanced, and you'll feel more energetic right from the start of the day.

I suffer season affective symptoms as part of my mood disorder. I find spending time in the sunshine, early in the morning and early evening help me and I find exercising just after sunrise by taking a short walk (15-30 mins) really helps lift my mood for the day.

You could try a sun lamp which also helps simulate morning sunshine and wakes you up, though I've found taking melatonin (as suggested by my GP), the stuff people often take to counter jet lag effective. Good sleep hygiene is imperative and part of this is waking up at the same time every day no matter how tired you are and set bed times. Make sure you confine your bed as a place of rest, just for sleeping and sex, and try to avoid doing mentally active things in it like reading engrossing books, watching TV and DVDs or studying...

Other things I find helpful are taking vitamin B supplements along side omega 3 (fish oil, but also can be found in other founds such as oily fish and flax seed). A diet of fresh foods also is a great idea.

I'm the same as Red and Freyja. I try to get outside for a walk everyday, especially when it's actually sunny. It's like a magnet to me. Event the cold bracing air revitalises me, but the sun on my face is miraculous.
I also stand at the window and look at my gardens, imagining what it'll be like in the warm weather, or I look at photos of last summer, when it was warm.
When it's dull and rainy for days on end, I just try to keep busy in the house. I work very little in Jan/Feb, so at least I can get outside when it's nice, but being stuck in can be difficult.
