How do i ask a Doctor to......?!

Question: Give me anti-depressants???
Im worried that if i tell him he'll just say i'm been stupid, or making it all up. Then will just leave me to sort things out myself. The thing is i cant, i've drowned in water and unless i get help i'm not goin to be able to pull myself up.

Tell him you've been depressed a lot lately and you've tried to bring yourself up on your own by being positive but it's not working and you feel it's getting worse. Tell him how it's affecting your life. Lie in bed a lot, miss work or school, no motivation, don't want or like to do things you use to love to do, thoughts or suicide, inability to focus, no energy, unstable relationships, decrease in sex drive, wishing you were dead or never born, etc. You should also tell him any triggers that may have happened in your life. Death of a loved one, new baby, problem teenager, your divorce or your parents divorce, sexual assault, recent move to unfamiliar area, new job, new promotion, etc. Even just the winter season can make some people depressed. If your doc tell's you you're making it up. GET A NEW ONE! A good doc will listen to you.

leave the evaluation to him. If he feels like you need medicine or if he feels like you don't need it, he's probably pretty right.

Alot of people think the answer is anti-depressants, but they're not for everyone. the doctor will either perscribe them or not with your best interests at heart.

You need to tell him straightout that you would like to try out anti-depressents to see if they would make any difference to how you feel. The doctor will not think you are stupid or making it up, but if you ask for help he will probably be only too happy to do so.

well you need to tell him why you need anti-depressants first, then after listening to your symptoms he will then make a decision to either refer you to a therapist or prescribe you anti- depressants .

Just ask, he is your doctor. If he doesn't believe you he will refer you to a specialist. It is a buisness to him, and you are a customer. He is there to help.

You haven't even tried your doctor yet. Give him/her a chance to help you before you decide he/she won't. If you are not happy with what your doctor says, get a second opinion. Doctors, on the whole, don't think people are making up their symptoms. They tend to take you seriously since most people would rather not need their services.

Tell the doctor that you've been feeling depressed, and are interested in medication therapy. It's his job to listen to your concerns, and if he doesn't listen, go somewhere else.

If you mean your regular family doctor when you say "doctor", hopefully he/she will refer you to a psychologist for a diagnosis and further therapy, if warranted, before just handing you a script. In my experience, medication without counseling yields little to no results.

Doctors love to hand out pills. I doubt you'll have much trouble. Just explain your problems.

JUST COME out and ask......

i highly suggest finding an alternative to anti depressants. i was on them myself for a while and would not recommend anyone take them. but aside from that your doctor should be able to tell what is best for you. if you are completely honest and open about EVERYTHING with him/her then he/she will know how to help you

Tell him you are in need of a stress test and not the kind you take for the heart but for the mind, they will be able to better suite you with a med after you take this test. No Dr. will tll you that you are stupid! and even if you are medicated you still will have the same problems and you still will be left alone to deal with these problems go see a counselor get to the source of the problem medicated or not the problem will still be there, medication is just a temporary cover up fix that sooths the thoughts but at times can cause more damage then good! So first things first, call a couselor and make an appointment then see your Dr. tel them you think you are sturggling with depression and need to take the stress test and that medication may be needed and that you have already made an appointment with a couselor. good luck! Find a Dr. that works with you not against you you may have to go to a few before they listen....

There are a few suggestions to follow here:
1.) Tell your doctor sooner rather than later. It sounds like you are suffering and that should not be allowed to go on;
2.) Focus first on describing. Be prepared to tell about your situation, when difficulties started, how they affected you, and the course of the difficulties (that is, has the problem stayed the same, gotten worse, or gotten better across time). Also be prepared to describe if anyone else in your familiy has had similar experiences;
3.) Let your doctor ask questions and answer them comletely so that she/he has a clear understanding of your concerns;
4.) Let your doctor give you her/his opinion of what the problem is and how it can be treated;
5.) At that point, if medication is not mentioned as a treatment, simply ask your doctor if medicine can be part of the approach to setting things right.

If your doctor does not seem to understand or if she/he sees the problem or sees treatment approaches differently from the way you do, you can always ask for a second opinion. In fact, you can ask for second opinion even if you do think your doctor is on target. People do that sometimes to confirm a diagnosis or treatment approach.

Keep in mind that medicine for depression almost always does not work immediately. Often, the type of medication and the dose need to be adjusted and that can require time. Also, talk therapy, either alone or in combination with medication, has been proven to be effective in treating depression. Ask your doctor who does good talk therpy for depression and consider seeing that person.

Watch out for the worrying, doubts, and low energy level that often accompanies depression. It will make you want to do nothing. Doing nothing would only allow the depression to take hold more in your life. Go make an appointment with your doctor today. Good luck.

Tell him or her, that you are feeling under the weather and you are not physically ill. And that you want a clinical examination as you feel down.
