My only son has been just diagnois with Asperger Sydrome and I was totally blind-sided. I didnt want to believe it and I cried many many nights for my baby. He is 7 yrs old and yet he is still my baby boy. He will just learn differently and see things that we may not see, but things are still just the same. I have had to learn to become a differnet kind of parent/teacher.

I use alot of humor and lots of cmiling to reasure his confidence. He is on 2nd grade reading and has an excellent memory. As lost as I was, I still believe that my baby is still there...the same child that was loving and caring and wonderful.

Plz write to me if you feel lost too, I just found out not but two weeks ago and still saddens by this news. It isnt easy but as long as you have people around you that don't judge, you will be fine.

I encourage you to plz talk with me, I am alone and worried as well. I know that help is there for us both and that our children will succeed.

God Bless you and your precious child:-)

Asperger's syndrome only was first diagnosed in the early nineties. I know, 'cause I was diagnosed with it. To find out the criteria (aka: what you do to be diagnosed with it), look at the DSMIV,
It is siilar to Autism, except people can feele emotions and other's emotions.

It is at the farthest end of the Autism spectrum... autism is a spectrum disorder... These are very high functioning autistic people

Its a form of Autism. And I feel for you. That would be really difficult!

pretty mild case of autism, I know some people who have it that function perfectly in society. Check wikipedia on "Asperger's Syndrome"

www.aspergers.com That may help I hope.

Here's the wiki:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asbergers#S...

..."aspergers" is the right spelling.... my opinion is don't accept that diagnosis right off the bat- it's an easy catch-all...

It's a form of autism. Most people who have autism have difficulty making emotional connection with others. With Aspbergers, they do connect with others and tend to function a bit better since their symptoms are not as severe.

YES! I have a 9 1/2 year old with it well he is aspbergers/Autistic also. and Is in a special ED class sinse the 1st grade. He is getting better he is on medication. and hes been diagnosed sinse he was like 2 years old. but now that things have changed and they say so such thing anymore he was at first called PDD and its no longer used any more.
So he is considered Autistic.

Its really been hard he was my first child. I was like 18 years old when I got pregnant/ email me I know how hard it can be. :)
maybe we can talk.
