Bringing a friend to counseling?!

Question: I have an eating disorder...so my friends and mom says. My mom just found out I don't eat. So I figured I better ask for help before this gets out of hand. I asked my mom if I can get counseling. and she said she would consider it.
But about two weeks ago, I talked to someone at a camp. The person who I talked to is the one who suggested I talk to someone. She offered to come if I don't feel comfortable.

I DO want her to come, but I don't know what to tell my mom about the other person coming.
It makes me feel WAY more comfortable when someone else I know is there. Plus I already explained to her how I felt, and she had an eating disorder when she was younger. She knew how I felt, so that's why I want her to come.

Is that weird? I just don't like talking to people alone..
What could I tell my mom?

I would be open and honest with her and explain my feelings about having a friend come with me. Also explaining that the friend has had a similar problem in the past and this would make you feel more comfortable having her with you. Your Mom should not have to consider it, but get you the help you need with her support.

i'm a mom of 6... i would go with you in a second ask her....you may find it better to go without her too...sometimes you might say things that she doesn't need to hear..this is therapy for you...you have other things going on that are causing the eating disorder..i have depression and have therapy...i wouldn't want my family there because sometimes i say things i know would make them mad...but it's stuff i gotta get out...get the help with or without mom

its defenantly not weird to feel uncomfortable talking to people alone. if your friend is going to encourage you and help you find the strenth to get help than you should take her. If you feel that you need help dont let your mom convince you nt to get it, you have to help yourself even if its aginst her wishes. you could wind up dying. I know i did the same thing my mom just didnt want to believe that i had problems and now i feel like i am dying. I too have a eating disorder, and there is not a day that goes by that my body is not in pain

I would have her come with you for couseling, but not in the session right at first. If you want her in the session, talk to the therapist at the first session about it..
