When to take on the burden of someone's pain?!

Question: If someone has a tragic loss, or has a problem with alcolholism, or has health/emotional problems of any kind, when do you step and help and when do you walk away?

With that said, does the answer change if you've been romantically involved or just a friend?

If you are able to help, you do what you can do, no matter who it is. There is a great deal of difference in "helping" and "taking on the burden of someone elses pain". If helping another person is burdensome, than it is no help at all...to either you or the person you are trying to help. KJL

you help spouses, family, and the closest of friends. i'm very careful, now, in helping anyone. i tried a "rescue",and i ended up the victim. so you be careful, too.

If you are still living at home and a teen, discuss with your parents what is appropriate. Also, discuss with school counselor.

That happened to me to...Nah it dosn't if you want to be there for them then it is good because they do need you but never help alone alway have someone else with you or even a group to try and help this person.

You can share the reposbilies so you wont carry it all on your shoulders.

anyone dealing with those kinds of problems should definately have time by their selves to heal, and when the times right im pretty sure they will let you know or you will notice it in them and that will be your que to help or comfort

self preservation is most important otherwise your good to no one
