Help me please. I can't handle college. What should I do?!

Question: And I'm only going part time taking two classes. I can barely handle it. I can barely handle life in general. I took biology and I'm terrible at science. I remember one time getting a 61% back in grade school in science and that was with studying. I can't take the pressure... I came to a conclusion that college isn't for me... I have no future. I also came to the conclusion that I'm a lonely failure that should just quit with everything. Heck I've flunked an open book test before. I'm like just absoultey horrible in school and I want to be positive about it but the more positive I am the worst I do on test. I was so confidence one day of getting an A on a test and I ended up getting like a D-... Not half that bad I guess. What I been doing lately is eating fast food everyday to relieve stress and I know my arties will clog up one day and I'll have a heart attack where I won't be under all of this pressure. But thanks for hearing my problems. I do appreciate it. : )

Sounds like you should talk to one of your student mental health counselors. They can help you find a tutor if you need one or maybe recommend some counseling for stress or depression (it sounds like you may be depressed.)

Most of us go through periods of self-doubt like you are experiencing -- I know I did horribly during a number of periods in both high school and college, even dropped out for a while. But in the end, it worked out. Instead of taking classes that are so technically tough for you, why don't you see if you can switch to something you enjoy?

And college may not be for you. Even though I did go to college of and on, and eventually graduated, I later enrolled in an apprenticeship program to be a construction electrician and ended up becoming a successful tradesperson and, later a project manager and estimator. There are still opportunities like that available for young people. Some of us learn better on the job than from books and that may be the case for you. There is more than one way to be a "success" in the world, so don't beat yourself up if what you are doing now isn't working. You may be learning something valuable about yourself and it may help you find what does work.

Meanwhile, the fast food isn't helping. You'll feel better if you eat better (less sugar and fat, more fruits and salads) and take vitamins like a good one-a-day, 400mg of Vitamin E and 1200mg of EFA (essential fatty acids) a day. I know it sounds stupid, but it does help lift your mood and think straighter -- also helps your mind and body reduce stress.

Good luck to you and don't be afraid to ask for help -- we all need it sometimes.

First of all sweetheart, you need to calm down. It is not that serious. I go to college full time so I understand. You can find other things in life that may suit you better than college. If you don't feel comfortable using your brain, then find something to do dealing with using your hands or muscles.

Sounds like you need a break! Go to you college health center and make an appointment with a counsellor. You might have a learning disability. I'm sure that you are capable of doing the work but you need some help figuring out why you are overwhelmed. You are not a failure. You just need some support. Sometimes it dosen't matter how many credits you have. It still can be too much. Also, make an appointment with your advisor and professors and get their advice and insight. Good luck!

Man, get out of this academics pressure cooker! The damn world wouldn't function if it depended on academics. Go non academic according to your interests. Vocational or on-the job training, specialties like culinary training - or short-order cook, etc. There are hundreds and hundreds of jobs out there which offer satisfaction and self esteem. Think out of the box, and good luck. Believe me, follow your interests and everything will be cool!

Poor you - you sound so very down. My step-son is totally hopeless academically, but has taken an apprenticeship in welding and is best in his whole year. Maybe you need something more hands on, that could be a better fit for you. But more importantly, don't bottle it up, talk face to face about how you are feeling with someone you trust, you need to get it all out, or you'll explode.

you need to see a doctor that deals with self confindence, work with them,it will take some time
