Your anxieties are very common ones. They're not silly. It may help you sleep if, before going to bed, you address any of those issues that might be concerning you specifically, like the heart attack thing you mentioned- write them down and then analyze them, think about them logically; reassure yourself that it's very unlikely that that will actually happen, as you know already. Then you can put it out of your mind. If you really feel you can't control your anxiety in any way, you might look into seeing a doctor for some anti-anxiety medication.
And some general sleep tips: go to bed when you get tired, not when you think you should be getting to bed. You'll only lay awake otherwise. When you do go to bed, if you lay there awake for more than a half hour, get up and do some quiet activity (read, listen to music, etc.) until you feel so sleepy that you can't keep your eyes open. Then bed will feel like a relief and you'll likely fall asleep right away. Try not to think "I should be asleep right now, I'll be so tired tomorrow"- because laying in bed awake is just as bad, and it will keep you awake longer. Drink some milk and/or have a small (small=key) snack, just nothing too intense that will upset your stomach.
Also, make sure you only use your bed for sleeping. Don't read in your bed or watch TV from it, etc., because doing so will make your mind associate your bed with those "daytime" activities. Then when you get into bed at night to sleep, your brain will think it's time to be wakeful and read or watch TV or whatever it is. Only associate "bed" with "sleep". After you begin to be able to sleep through nights and get to sleep at a reasonable hour, it is good to have a routine. Your body has circadian rhythms (like a natural clock) that can be set to do certain things at certain times. After a while of going to bed at like 10:30 every night, your body will get used to it and you'll always start to feel sleepy at 10:30.
If all else fails, talk to your doctor. You may need a prescription sleep aid and maybe anti-anxiety meds.

Hi--that is too bad. Do you know what exactly is causing this besides your worries?? Stress possibly??If insomnia has been interfering with your daytime functioning for a month or longer, see your doctor to determine what might be the cause of your sleep problem and how it might be treated.

That'd doesn't sound stupid, a lot of people have that problem. You're probably panicking in the middle of the night just because you are so exhausted and maybe hallucinating things (minor). Most metropolitan cities have sleep clinics you can go to where you check in and "sleep" for the night and they monitor what happens. Sometimes you can get your health insurance to cover it, but if not you should still try to do it. Not sleeping is very unhealthy so you should get this checked out immediately.

Perhaps you should see your doctor and get some anti-anxiety meds. You could try melatonin or Advil or Tylenol PM if you don't want to see your doctor, but I feel if this is anxiety (and it sounds like it is), symptoms will just crop up in some other area of your life.

Talk to a doctor and get some medication for temporary help. Also, you seem to be worrying about a lot of things - maybe it would be good if you had someone to talk to - a good friend, or maybe a counselor...
Good luck & good sleeping!

you know, it is best for you to see a doctor.... He/she will be more capable of answering your questions and also give you the right treatment

Take a jog during the day. It actually energizes you for the day, and when it comes time for bed, your body will need sleep.

If that doesn't work, a small dose of NyQuil helps. a SMALL dose.

I had the same problem same symptoms. my problems were due to drinking . i quit drinking though sometimes i have trouble sleeping still. I don't know your lifestyle but that helped me, I lie awake before I have to go to work still to this day. Even though I have been doing it for 12 years. sunday nights after the weekend. I talked to my doctor and he gave me happy pills that didn't work. your not crazy I hope this helps you if anything to no your not alone.you should talk to yourdoc or try tyleonol pm

1.Stop eating 2 hours before you go to bed
2.Turn the TV off and get off the computer an hour before bed
3.Try drinking sleepy time tea

It sounds to me like your anxiety (even if you're unaware) is causing you to lose sleep. Have you tried consulting a doctor? Anxiety can cause you to think too much and overanalyze a lot of things that are going on in your life. You seem a bit paranoid. Could you be stressed? It's a shame to have an "off" sleeping pattern, so like I said before, consult a doctor. Good luck!
