People who have bipolar disorder..How long before?!

Question: I have been on my medicine for about 3 weeks now and I was wondering how long does it take to notice a change in ones attitude and decision making in general?

Up to 6-8 weeks sometimes...just be patient and don't push yourself...one day you will wake up and realize you're feeling better and you won't even see it coming!

I noticed a change with Geodon (for mania) within a few days. But a depressive medication like Abilify or Lexapro should be tried for 6 weeks before trying something else.

With a mood stabilizer like Lamictal or Depakote, I don't really notice when it kicks in... for me, it's more a preventative medication like a seat-belt.

Work with your doctor...

Best of luck~!

Approx 4 wks

sometimes it takes a few weeks to a month, but if it doesn't change within a couple more weeks, I would talk to the doctor. They may need to change your prescritpion.
Goodluck!

Much depends on the medication but as a rule it generally takes about 4-6 weeks to get in your system. The change in in attitude is gradual. So look for the gradual changes. When you go to your doctor again tell him what you think about the medication you are on and what is has and has not changed. This will help your doctor get your dosage where it needs to be for you.

it depends on the medication. and the severity of your disorder.
I have been on a trial for a new treatment for bi-polar. and I noticed a chance within two days. but my treatment is not approved by the government as yet. I have been on Zoloft at a dosage of 800mg per day for the past 5 years and also epilem 800mg per day. before you say anything, yes epilem is used to control epilepsy but it is also controlling the swings from hi to low. and it does not have the side effects of the other drugs.

Just forget about the medicine and have a laughing fit, it helps more.
I don't know pal, just have to bug ya.
Keep happy, smile and they'll wonder what U R up to.
